JAMB to
release 2019
UTME results
from tomorrow
The Joint Admissions
and Matriculation Board
(JAMB) has assured
candidates of the 2019
Unified Tertiary
Matriculation
Examination (UTME) that
results would be ready
from tomorrow, April 29.
The Board’s Head of
Media and Publicity, Dr
Fabian Benjamin,
disclosed this in an
interview with News
Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
in Bwari.
Benjamin said that
screening of the results
would soon be over and the
results released.
“We are still screening
but hopefully, anytime
next week, the results will
be ready,” he said.
Speaking also on the
board’s readiness to screen
results of UTME
candidates from 2009 to
2018, Benjamin said this
would begin after the
release of the 2019 results.
He said this was part of
the board’s effort to
address the issues of
malpractice in the system.
The board had stated
that it would only release
the 2019 UTME results
after undergoing thorough
screening to identify and
apprehend examination
cheats.
The process would
identify those involved in
multiple registration
through biometric
capturing and also
address group registration
by some elite schools, who
end up mixing candidate’s
data.
The board said:
“Normally, results are
expected to be out within
24 to 48 hours as obtained
in previous examinations
held in 2017 and 2018.
“However, the board
does not want this to be
business as usual.
“Hence the programmed
delay, which is part of its
deliberate effort to
properly scrutinize,
identify and address all
forms of examination
malpractice.
“The board will continue
to act decisively with
regards to any irregularity
discovered even after
results are released.
“However, the board has
made it a point of duty to
screen all activities at all
centres via CCTV
recordings, to ensure that
it does not release results
of compromised
examinations.”
The board, while
regretting
all
inconvenience caused in
the process, reaffirmed its
commitment to providing
equal opportunity to all
candidates in order to
articulate their
aspirations.
JAMB said that effective
from when it would
officially release the
results, all candidates can
simply send RESULT, via
SMS, to 55019 using the
same number that was
used for registration.
The result, it said, would
be replied as an SMS
shortly after.
This process, the board
explained, was simplified to
eliminate exploitation by
business centres and cyber
cafés who often take
advantage of candidates.
It also urged candidates to
ignore all messages in
circulation on how to check
the results as they were all
products of deceit.
Why companies are closing down
in Nigeria — Expert
r Aliyu Ilias, the
MExecutive Director,
Save the Consumers
Initiative, yesterday, said
companies in Nigeria and
Africa are closing down due
to bad customer services.
He made the assertion in
Abuja at a public presentation
of a book he authored on
“Understanding Customer
Experience in Africa”.
According to him, if
companies must secure high
patronage of goods and
services they produce, they
must give people good
experience that will
guarantee high patronage
and make for high profit.
“Manufacturers, producers
need to redirect their products
and services to offer good
customer service experience,
if not, companies from
outside Nigeria and Africa
will come and take the money
away.
“They must learn how to
give people good experience,
good experience will make
people to patronise them.
Some companies are going
out of business because of
bad customer experience.
“African’s, Nigerian’s, don’t
complain but they will go
behind and tell each other
Africa as a whole. Aliza
said the partnership with
state and Federal
Governments, which has
been on-going for years,
further demonstrated the
company’s efforts and
commitment at different
levels in the fight to ensure
a malaria free country.
“The theme challenges
all of us to make a
personal commitment to
saving lives and helping
communities to thrive by
ending malaria. Decades
of significant progress
against the disease have
slowed as cases of malaria
increased in 2016 and
2017. There is an urgent
need to re-energise the
fight to eliminate the
disease, which still
threatens half of the global
population and kills one
child every two minutes” ,
she added.
not safe,” Mr Abdulrasaq
said in a statement.
“We call on all security
agencies to investigate this
matter and bring all
culprits to justice, the
students will not hesitate to
choose a date to protest
against the insecurity in our
vicinity. An injury to one is
an injury to all.”
Phone calls and text
messages to Bala Elkana,
the police spokesperson in
Lagos State, were not
responded to.
Mr Abdulrasaq told
PREMIUM TIMES,
yesterday morning, that the
students’ association would
go to the police station
today “to get full report
about the case which might
lead to peaceful protest as
the case may be.”
about what they experienced
with such companies.
“This is why a book like this
is written to guide people to
retain their customers and to
stop customer shunning,” he
said.
Ilias said that Africans do
not want to spend their
monies where they would not
be appreciated, adding that
competitors would always
want to push rival companies
out of business due to lack of
good customer service
experience.
He said that for Africa to
have standard consumer
policy, the African Union
must come together to
formulate the policy and
ensure that companies
adhered to them.
Brand Manager, West
Africa, Reckitt Benckiser,
Phoebe Larry Izamoje,
explained that, through
the grassroots community
engagement, RB educates
communities on the
importance of hygiene and
how the simple habit of
maintaining clean
surroundings and
drainages can significantly
help to reduce malaria
exposure.
Minister of Health, Prof.
Isaac Adewole, in his address
at the event, said this year’s
campaign draw significant
attention to the need to
completely eradicate the
malaria scourge in the
country. He commended
all stakeholders for their
work and sustained
support in the fight against
malaria through
collaborations with the
government.
