Student leaders
work together
for change
Cashmere Head Boy Okirana
Tilaia addresses the vigil in
Hagley Park.
I would like to acknowledge the
loss and grief felt by our school
community as a result of the
tragic events of March 15.
I was deeply impressed by the
way in which our staff and
student community managed
themselves through this difficult
time.
I make particular mention of
our Head Boy, Okirana Tilaia, who
along with other student leaders,
organised an across-school vigil,
and an open mic evening, enabling
students to stand together and
share their empathy, their love
and their voice.
These events showed that our
young people can use social
media in really productive ways
to make a positive difference
in their own community and
globally.
On the last day of
Term 1, Cashmere
High School staff and
students farewelled
Mr Wilson fostered
close connections
between the school
and the local
community, leading
the school through
many challenging
times and will be
sadly missed.
Mr Wilson leaves
Cashmere High
School to take up a
new role as Principal
of Kristin School in
Auckland.
the Canterbury Agricultural Park on May
All the dedicated hours of rehearsals
and preparation undertaken by Cashmere
certainly paid off and the students were
wonderful ambassadors for their school
and community.
Students partake in Anzac Day services
Cashmere students Jess Tater, far
left, and Alice Tiso lay a wreath at the
Victoria Park Memorial for the 19th
Battalion and Armoured Regiment
Service, one of two local community
ANZAC Day Services of Remembrance
Cashmere supported again this year.
The other service was at the Halswell
War Memorial, Halswell Domain.
Anzac Day, April 25, is the national
day of remembrance for the fallen of
all wars, but specifically it commemorates
the day Australian and New
Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) landed
at Gallipoli in 1915.
