—Beth Reed, Owner
Beth Reed of Design Actually loves
working in partnership with clients
to create functional, beautiful
spaces. “We collaborate with our clients
who want to live well by turning their
Pinterest dreams into a reality, and we
curate a design vision for their entire
home. Listening to our client’s needs and
cultivating a sense of style, we help weave
a seamless look throughout, while realizing
new ways to live within the home.
My advice would be to stop the Pinning
and let us take over, so your home can be
classic versus trendy,” says Beth.
Beth earned her Bachelor’s Degree in
Interior Design from the University of
Central Arkansas in 2005 and is an allied
member of the American Society of
Interior Designers as well as a member
of the Interior Design Society. We had an
opportunity to ask Beth a few questions
about her work.
Describe your first project:
A: Honestly, I can’t remember the first.
However, my favorite project during the
beginning of my career would be The
Toggery, a children’s boutique in Little
Rock’s Pleasant Ridge Town Center. I
was honored to win my first ASID design
award for the funky and whimsical
colors and patterns that were used. It
was then that I found my style.
What do you consider your biggest
professional accomplishment?
A: My most proud professional accomplishment
would be starting my own
interior design company. It only seemed
logical since I love to pull together
flooring, lighting, furniture, and accessories
so much. I may as well help others
fall in love with their own home again.
What project types do you typically
pursue?
A: Our design team takes on a variety of
projects, each unique in size, scope, and
style with an emphasis on whole-home
or whole-room designs, including new
construction, renovation, furnishing, and
interior styling. Our website has a variety
of services to select from, and all projects
begin with a consultation.
Each project is unique because it
reflects the personal style of our clients.
Collaborations with local artisans and
craftsmen add exclusivity and luxury to
every project. We provide direction and
guidance during the entire process.
What are you known for in the
industry? What is your personal
aesthetic?
A: I would say my design aesthetic is
to create classic, transitional, and smart
spaces for busy professionals who want
to make good investments. Smart shows
up in the fibers used in area rugs, fabrics
on the chairs, and topical treatments that
can be applied to fabrics or rugs that are
not inherently stain resistant. Another
way to be smart is by using functional
furniture that allows you to maintain
great conversation.
Q: What are the benefits of working
with a designer?
A: You are able to work with a professional
who gets to know your style on
a more in-depth level and understands
how to best service your needs.
Designers bring samples to your house,
so you are able to see them next to the
existing elements and lighting.
Q: Where do you draw inspiration?
A: I typically start with a fabulous fabric,
patterned tile, or light fixture, and the
vision comes to me.
Q: Any additional wisdom to share?
A: Don’t be afraid of color, and don’t
buy accessories that are smaller than
a cantaloupe! Smaller accessories will
make your space feel cluttered. We opt
for larger and fewer accessories.
