SPROCKETS: Hit the road!

July is the month when many Maverick members
head off to the National PCA Parade. This is a yearly
event where thousands of PCA members gather together
for a week of events, including driving tours, autocross,
banquets, exploring the local area, and most of all,
getting to know other PCA members from every part of
the country. Porsche AG always has a big presence, and
always unveils a special vehicle for the first time at the
event. If you haven’t been to a PCA Parade you need to
attend one soon!
I would like to talk a little bit about one of the
Maverick Region’s most prolific members, spanning
just about the entire history of the club. Charlie Davis
recently passed away, shortly after celebrating his 50th
year as a member of the Maverick Region. During
those 50 years he was President of the Maverick
Region twice, Vice President twice, and Secretary twice.
Charlie has left a permanent imprint on our
club, and his legacy lives on in many ways
that most of us don’t even realize. Thank
you, Charlie, for 50 years of volunteering
your enthusiasm and time to the Maverick
Region and National PCA. We will miss you.
Charlie was a two-time recipient of the Selcer Award
(Maverick Region’s highest recognition) and National
PCA Zone Rep for four years. He served on an untold
number of committees, both on a regional and national
level, and helped organize countless events. As our club
photographer for many years, Charlie was at just about
every event on the schedule with camera in hand.
In my time as a member of the Maverick Executive
Council I have had the opportunity to work with
Charlie on many projects, and the honor to get to know
him and his wife Teri (also a very active member of our
club for many years) on a personal level.
MAV OF THE MONTH:
Kurt Scaggs
Kurt Scaggs joined our Maverick Region in August of 2013, along with his 1987
Guards Red 911 Carrera. He started by participating in our region driving events,
and by 2016, Kurt had volunteered for a major role in the production of Slipstream
and our social media sites as the event ad designer. Kurt also created many of our
most iconic poster and decal designs, such as the 55th anniversary Founders’ Day
event and the Mavs & Mochas logo. In April of 2018, Kurt stepped up to one of
our most labor-intensive volunteer positions, that of Editor of Slipstream, and has
been at the helm of each issue since then. Kurt, along with his wife Melissa and son
Wilson, actively attend our region social events, while Kurt continues to participate
in driving events as often as possible. Kurt expanded his classic Porsche stable
about nine months ago by adding a 1986 Porsche 944 Turbo to his garage. Thank
you Kurt for all of the work you do each month producing Slipstream!
