2 wheel vs 4 wheel
the suitcase debate
T R A V E L & H O L I D A Y S
T&H
You booked your trip and now it’s time to think about your
suitcase. If you had to buy a new one, what would you pick? 2-
wheels or 4-wheels?
Over the years we have seen airports, bus stations and train
stations full of passengers using both types. Do you know
which one suits you best?
It all depends on where you’re going. If
you’re traveling through Europe,
chances are you’ll be trekking through
streets and alleyways paved with
cobblestones. That means that a 2-
wheel suitcase will be a better choice
because you’ll be able to pull it from
behind.
If you glide through airport lounges and
hotel lobbies instead, a 4-wheeled
suitcase will work better because it is
easy to push along the smooth
surfaces.
That’s the general take on it. Next you
should think of durability and quality.
Buying luggage is a long-term
investment so you should consider
more things.
Pros and cons of the 2-wheel
suitcase.
Pros
2-wheel suitcases are normally less
expensive that their 4-wheel
counterpart. There is also more
space inside. This then makes sense
for the traveler who is on a budget
but needs to pack a lot of items. 2-
wheel luggage also tends to be more
durable because they usually have
an axel that connects to sturdier
wheels. Bonus when walking
through rough terrain and less likely
for the odd pebble or debris to
unexpectedly damage the wheels
while traveling.
I personally prefer pulling luggage
behind me because I feel it’s more
comfortable for my height.
Cons
A 2-wheel suitcase is perfect for those
who travel with only one piece of
luggage. It becomes more difficult to pull
two suitcases for a longer period. So, if
you are traveling with more than one
suitcase, a 2-wheel suitcase is not for
you.
Something else to think about is the width
of the aisles or passageways. Pulling a
heavy 2-wheel suitcase can be tricky at
times especially when maneuvering
through narrow passageways.
Based on experience, the 2-wheel
suitcase has a tendency to fall over if you
pack it unevenly. So that makes it is more
difficult to have it stand on its own and
the possibility of damaging any
breakables you pack.
