placement season at <strong>IBS</strong> Bangalore<br />

for the outgoing <strong>2019</strong> batch of<br />

students witnessed a significant<br />

uptrend with a rush of offers from<br />

various reputed domestic as well as<br />

international MNCs that visited our<br />

campus. Reflecting the optimistic<br />

business sentiment, corporate<br />

houses across industry verticals<br />

showed keen interest in recruiting<br />

from our campus and offered higher<br />

pay packages than previous years.<br />

This year, 116 companies<br />

participated in the placement<br />

process, and I am happy to<br />

inform you that a good number<br />

of them are new companies from<br />

growing sectors, that started their<br />

relationship with <strong>IBS</strong> Bangalore<br />

this year. The BFSI sector<br />

continued to lead the way in terms<br />

of recruitments. We are also happy<br />

to note that the average CTC has<br />

shown an uptrend for the sixth<br />

consecutive year.<br />

A practice-oriented curriculum, a<br />

conducive learning environment,<br />

the untiring efforts of our faculty<br />

members, constant mentoring by<br />

our alumni, useful inputs from the<br />

placement team, and appropriate<br />

soft-skills interventions make our<br />

students industry ready while they<br />

are still in college. This ensures<br />

that our students are ready to get<br />

into their jobs quickly and start<br />

adding value to their organizations<br />

Greetings from<br />

<strong>IBS</strong> Bangalore!<br />

The distinctive feature of <strong>IBS</strong><br />

Bangalore is that the pedagogic<br />

approach is centered on studentcentric<br />

learning rather than faculty<br />

centered teaching. Students are<br />

expected to read up relevant<br />

reference material and case studies<br />

before they come to class. Field<br />

trips, projects, assignments and<br />

group activities form significant<br />

components of several courses.<br />

In addition, a wide range of<br />

extra-curricular activities and<br />

management fests, organized by<br />

the students themselves, provide<br />

opportunities to them to hone their<br />

coordinating and inter-personal<br />

skills. A summer internship<br />

program of 14 weeks’ duration<br />

between the first and second years,<br />

gives them a good measure of<br />

exposure to the corporate world.<br />

With so many co-curricular and extracurricular<br />

activities, our students get<br />

opportunities to plan, execute and be<br />

accountable for the different clubs that<br />

they are part of, like sports club, CSR, data<br />

analytics club, finance club, environment<br />

club, etc. The activities of the students<br />

are spread out in such a way that there is<br />

skill building in the conceptual, functional<br />

and analytical front, so much so that<br />

<strong>IBS</strong> is endorsed by leading corporate<br />

organizations for placement. Our alumni<br />

are placed in prestigious organizations<br />

as managers and in leadership positions<br />

representing all verticals and sectors.<br />

The strong industry-institute linkage<br />

is evident in the form of continuous<br />

support from the industry - whether it is<br />

designing and updating the curriculum to<br />

suit the changing industry requirements,<br />

or conducting guest speaker sessions,<br />

industry visits or providing placements<br />

and internship. The fourteen weeks<br />

summer internship program provides our<br />

students with an excellent opportunity<br />

to learn the ways of the corporate world<br />

Our Management Development Programs<br />

cover contemporary areas of interest for<br />

Prof. Bharathi is a faculty member in Marketing with 19<br />

years of experience in academics. She has taught courses<br />

such as Consumer Behaviour, Advertising, Digital Marketing<br />

and Strategic Marketing Management. She has also written<br />

a number of articles for books, newspapers and academic<br />

journals.<br />

Her strengths lie in the case study pedagogy. She has<br />

conducted several training programs for academicians on case<br />

study teaching and writing. She has developed about 107 case<br />

studies available at The Case Centre, UK, and was one of the<br />

nominees for the Best Case Teacher Award conferred by The<br />

Case Centre.<br />

She was a participant faculty at the International Staff Week at<br />

VIVES University, Kortrijk, Belgium, during which she delivered<br />

a course on Women Consumers in 2016. She was also invited<br />

to be part of the European Erasmus Exchange faculty to<br />

the University of Manchester Metropolitan, UK, where she<br />

Prof. Harisankar is a faculty member in the area<br />

of Marketing. An alumnus from IIM-Lucknow, he<br />

has more than 15 years of experience in industry<br />

and 5 years in academics.<br />

During the corporate career, he worked across<br />

sectors of FMCG, Pharmaceuticals and Industrial<br />

Products. He has experience of handling sales<br />

and marketing operations in different markets<br />

across India and Middle East. He teaches subjects<br />

Strategy. Currently pursuing doctoral studies, his<br />

research interests are primarily in the areas of<br />

Dr. Harish is an alumnus of IIT Madras<br />

and IIM Calcutta. He has 36 years of<br />

experience, of which 13 years is in<br />

academics. His professional experience<br />

is in marketing and management<br />

consultancy. His career includes<br />

stints with Maruti Suzuki and the Tata<br />

Group. He has published many articles,<br />

research papers, edited books and<br />

case studies. He teaches courses in<br />

Marketing and Business Strategy. His<br />

principal areas of interest are Brand<br />

Prof. Leena has an industrial experience of 3 years, writing<br />

Law, Management Accounting, and Company Secretaryship. He<br />

has written over 30 articles in the areas of Banking, Finance, and<br />

Strategy. Dr. Murali has authored 4 books – Financial Accounting,<br />

Accounting for Managers, Bank Credit Management (Co Author),<br />

and Personal Financial Planning (Co Author). He runs a knowledge<br />

management consulting firm wherein he handles training sessions<br />

in professional institutes in the areas of Finance and Banking. He has<br />

Prof. Muralidhara is a Mechanical Engineer, PGDM, and Gold Medalist<br />

from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and a Chartered<br />

Financial Analyst. With an industry experience of more than 28 years, he<br />

has held several senior positions in reputed public sector and private sector<br />

organizations. As the Dean of Case Research Center at <strong>IBS</strong> Hyderabad,<br />

he led a team of talented case writers which won several international<br />

awards and accomplishments. Prof. Muralidhara has authored/co-authored<br />

more than one hundred case studies in management. He has been on the<br />

jury for a number of competitions and a reviewer for many international<br />

Prof. Narayanaswamy is a faculty member in<br />

Finance and he has recently submitted his<br />

Since 1993, he has been into executive<br />

consulting and academic roles. After his<br />

active Industry association with leading Non-<br />

Banking Finance Companies for six years,<br />

he became an independent Consultant and<br />

Trainer to run his own consulting, training<br />

B-Schools and companies.<br />

Prof. Radhika’s area of expertise is in Business<br />

Communication and Soft Skills. She has spent 22<br />

Prof. Ravichandran has over 31 years of experience – 28 of them in<br />

years as Manager in HSBC in the Global Banking Markets division and<br />

Analytics division (Credit Control Management, Credit Risk & Operation<br />

Risk Management, and Risk Analytics)) and over 3 years in Academics.<br />

& development organizations. She had been<br />

a thought leader in the arena of modern day<br />

Dr. Shafiulla is a Marketing faculty member with<br />

21 years of experience in Academics. His primary<br />

research area includes Brand Management and<br />

Retail Management. His article titled “Genericization<br />

of Trademarks: Brand name becomes Generic name<br />

– A Challenge for Brand Managers” was published in<br />

the Indian Journal of Marketing (Cabell’s Registered<br />

Journal) in September 2010. It is a pioneering work<br />

on “Genericized Trademarks”. He has published 12<br />

papers in the areas of Marketing in national refereed<br />

journals and has presented 25 papers at various<br />

national and international conferences in India and<br />

abroad in the area of Marketing. He has been on<br />

the editorial board for the IUP Journal of Marketing<br />

Management, Hyderabad, as Consulting Editor for<br />

the last seven years. He was also a recipient of the<br />

is currently engaged with a start-up that offers<br />

Dr. Saisree is a Professor of Statistics & Business<br />

Analytics. She has completed her doctoral studies from<br />

Summer Internship Program<br />

On completion of the first two semesters, <strong>IBS</strong> students undergo a 14 week summer internship, an important<br />

component of education at <strong>IBS</strong>. It is an attempt to bridge the gap between the professional world and<br />

academic institutions. The internship program is jointly supervised by an industry guide along with a faculty<br />

guide. It carries a weightage of 18 credits. The students use the internship to apply their academic learnings in<br />

The students can pursue elective courses in Marketing,<br />

“WHY DO YOU WANT TO DO AN MBA?”<br />

This was the most common question asked<br />

in the rounds of personal interviews and<br />

I was no exception. I don’t particularly<br />

remember my response at the time, but<br />

trust me, you won’t remember yours after<br />

7 years either. The reason? We all come up<br />

with rehearsed responses which we think<br />

will impress the interviewer.<br />

But what I DO remember is the true reason<br />

Presently I’m the Founder and Director<br />

of a Management Consulting firm<br />

named Edgerise Global Pvt Ltd, based<br />

out in Noida. My journey from being an<br />

employee of a management consulting<br />

firm to the founder of a management<br />

consulting firm is the outcome of all the<br />

valuable skills, knowledge and guidance<br />

imparted by <strong>IBS</strong> during my MBA course.<br />

We had yet another successful season of campus<br />

placements at <strong>IBS</strong> Bangalore for the class of<br />

<strong>2019</strong>. This year has seen a substantial increase<br />

in the number of first time recruiters visiting the<br />

campus. Close to 50% of our recruiters were<br />

new and first time recruiters, which was quite<br />

encouraging. The median compensation for the<br />

current placement season was 6.5 LPA, whereas<br />

the average CTC stood at 5.94 LPA CTC. Over<br />

the years we have seen a steady and continuous<br />

increase in the average CTC at <strong>IBS</strong> Bangalore.<br />
