Prof. G.V. MURALIDHARA
Director
We are indeed grateful to all our recruiters who
have shown confidence and faith in our students
over the years. The just concluded placement season
at IBS Bangalore for the outgoing 2018 batch of
students witnessed a significant uptrend with a rush
of offers from various reputed domestic as well as
international MNCs that visited our campus. Reflecting
the optimistic business sentiment, corporate houses
across industry verticals showed keen interest in
recruiting from our campus and offered higher pay
packages than previous years. This is a reflection of
the positive experience that our recruiters have had
with our students from previous batches who have
made successful careers in these organizations.
We believe that it is the responsibility of the institution
to provide the best education and environment to
make our students job worthy. The focus of our school
is on maintaining high academic rigor with adequate
exposure to real world problems and opportunities
to engage with the corporate world. In addition, the
diversity of students at IBS Bangalore makes for a
unique and healthy environment that encourages
interaction and peer learning.
Placements at IBS Bangalore have always been a
two-way process. The reputation of IBS Bangalore and
the excellent contact and network with companies
built over the years by the faculty members and
placement managers make the companies look at IBS
Bangalore as their preferred source for young talent.
The highly motivated and talented group of students
at our campus have made the best use of these
opportunities and chosen these organizations for
building their careers.
5
This year, 125 companies participated in
the placement process, and I am happy
to inform you that a good number of
them are new companies from growing
sectors, that started their relationship
with IBS Bangalore this year. The BFSI
sector continued to lead the way in terms
of recruitments. We are also happy to
note that the average CTC has shown an
uptrend for the fourth consecutive year.
A practice-oriented curriculum, a conducive
learning environment, the untiring
efforts of our faculty members, constant
mentoring by our alumni, useful inputs
from the placement team, and appropriate
soft-skills interventions make our students
industry ready while they are still in college.
This ensures that our students are ready to
get into their jobs quickly and start adding
value to their organizations from day one.
With 46,000 alumni in all parts of the
globe occupying senior positions and
the institute consistently achieving high
rankings in B-School surveys conducted by
reputed agencies, we at IBS are, as always,
committed to grooming future leaders with an
uncompromising focus on relevance and rigor.
With the high level of integrity and flexibility
that the industry demands today, we are
confident that our students will contribute well
to the growth of your organization.
Please continue to support us in our endeavor
to scale greater heights. I am more than
confident that our mutually rewarding
relationship will continue to go from strength
to strength with your support.
We are also grateful to the industry leaders
who visit our campus from time to time to
be part of the ongoing co-curricular and
extracurricular activities. These interactions
help our students sharpen their skills and
make them ready to contribute effectively
when they take up challenging assignments
in the industry. These industry leaders
provide unique real-life industry insights to
our students that contribute greatly in their
preparation.
Greetings from IBS Bangalore!
The distinctive feature of IBS Bangalore is that
the pedagogic approach is centered on studentcentric
learning rather than faculty centered
teaching. Students are expected to read up
relevant reference material and case studies
before they come to class. Field trips, projects,
assignments and group activities form significant
components of several courses.
Dr. R. HARISH
Dy. Director | Academic Co-ordinator
In addition, a wide range of extra-curricular
activities and management fests, organized by
the students themselves, provide opportunities
to them to hone their coordinating and interpersonal
skills. A summer internship program of
14 weeks’ duration between the first and second
years, gives them a good measure of exposure to
the corporate world.
It is your continued trust and confidence that
help us scale further heights of performance and
achieve newer benchmarks of excellence.
IBS-Bangalore’s Management Development Programs are
aimed at establishing a robust interface between the faculty
and the corporate executives. Our Management Development
Programs cover contemporary areas of interest for executives
at all levels. These programs are of varying duration and are
conducted on campus as well as out of campus. Their objective
is to increase understanding and skills in specific areas, while
filling knowledge gaps and boosting competence. The tools used
include case studies, business games, role play, exercises, and
interactions with experienced faculty and fellow participants.
We conduct area specific programs to increase understanding,
develop skills, fill knowledge gaps, and boost competence.
Dr. UMA SREEDHAR
Dean - MDP
IBS Bangalore provides a wide range of services aimed at
enhancing managerial effectiveness. These include promotion
and development of sound management practices suitable
to Indian conditions and stimulation of management thinking
leading to excellence. The aim of IBSB is to use its teaching
and research resources in ways that will educate and help
decision makers to solve the challenges and pressures posed by
Liberalization, Privatization, and Globalizations of the economy.
We have designed and delivered programs for many top
organizations like Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Grant
Thornton, Schneider Electric, Fiscal Policy Institute, Bill Forge Ltd,
etc. in all functional areas of management. These are designed
with a proper blend of conceptual and experiential learning.
These programs are tailored to your organization’s strategic goals
that will help you achieve your business objectives.
The facilitators/instructors are highly competent and have rich
industrial experience and a strong conceptual foundation. The
material provided is relevant and the overall program delivery is
extremely well executed.
IBS Bangalore plans to conduct programs in the highly topical
areas of GST, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Marketing, Big Data
Analysis, and HR Analytics, during the year.
M E S S A G E F R O M T H E P L A C E M E N T C O O R D I N A T O R
At the outset, I gratefully acknowledge the
encouraging support and continued patronage
offered by the industry to IBS Bangalore both in terms
of recruitment and industry immersion programs.
We at IBS B are aware of the dynamism that marks
today’s organizational ecosystem. The ever growing
and synergetic blend of technology and innovation is
fuelling change in both the Indian and global business
arenas. Effectively interpreting and managing the
business horizon is therefore imperative for today’s
management professional.
Prof. VENKATARAMAN J
Dean - Placements
At IBS Bangalore, our endeavor has been to prepare
students to be ‘industry ready’. Besides packaging our
courses with industry-insights and relevant conceptual
frameworks, our academic process pays special heed
to nurturing the ‘can do’ outlook among our students.
The result is that the managers-in-the making
represent a desirable mix of the right knowledge,
relevant skill, and ‘go-getter’ attitude through a quality
course curriculum, conducive learning environment,
and soft-skills interventions. It gives me great pleasure
to introduce the class of 2019 PGPM students to
the corporate world. I invite you for the campus
placements of our students of the class of 2019.
May this be another significant milestone of progress
for your organization and for us at IBS Bangalore!
ON THE
MOVE
Prof. GEETHA V. SHARMA
The landscape of Global Business
Communication has changed drastically.
There has has been a shift in the
paradigm where the notion of standard
English has made way to the notion of
‘World Englishes‘. This kind of change
raises various questions concerning
English as a global language especially
in business management context and
its use in business and cross-cultural
communication - how can the ESL users
in business context ensure intelligibility.
Through this study Prof Geetha Sharma
hopes to understand the varied levels of
communicative competence in students
and wishes to formulate a set of ‘Can
Do statements’ which may have the
potential to create better communicative
competence in the chosen group which in
turn leads to leveraged reduction of any
potential gaps.
DESIGNED FOR
ANALYSIS
The case study method is a key component of the academic
program at IBS, which is one of the few institutions in India
SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
On completion of the first two semesters, IBS
students undergo a 14 week summer internship
in the industry. The internship program is jointly
supervised by an industry guide along with a faculty
guide. The internship program carries a weightage
of 18 credits. The students use the internship to
apply their academic learnings in real life situations.
The internship program experiences, enrich,
Elective-VIII
ELECTIVES
The students can pursue elective courses
in Marketing, Finance, Human Resource
Management, Operations, and Information
Technology & Systems. Each student
must choose eight electives. While four of
these must be from a single stream, the
others can be from any other stream. To
specialize in a particular stream, a student
has to pursue at least four electives from
that stream. Thus, a student can acquire
a dual specialization by choosing four
electives from one stream and another
four from a second stream. Keeping in view
Industry requirements, Analytics has been
offered as a specialization from 2016. The
electives include Advanced Analytics & Big
Data Analytics.
MBA was always one of my dreams. A dream
about nurturing relationships, managing
projects and building businesses. ICFAI
Business School (IBS) helped me prepare
theoretically and practically to handle the
dynamic trends across industries. With
the rapid rise of internet and related
disruption is prevalent in every industry and
in some, it is lightning fast.
the right set of tools, techniques and
methodologies to address complex business
the right opportunities to work closely with
subject matter experts (SMEs) and thereby
improving practical management skills.
Eminent faculties, case study methodology,
well-equipped Library, intercollege festivals &
Are you an entrepreneur in the making? Then investing your time in a
B-school would be the smartest choice for you. MBA at IBS has surely
given me a good foundation of knowledge and practical exposure to
succeed as an entrepreneur. While business management degree is not
required to start your own business, it surely has helped me stand out
from the crowd and face day to day operational situations with much
confidence. So it is important for young aspirants to choose the right
B-school which will equip them with knowledge, skills and practical
exposure to discover their endless career path options. “Don’t count
the things you do, do the things that count” Zig Ziglar- mantra to be
remembered when you enter a B- school and thereafter.
When I think of my IBS life I always think of this famous quote
“Teacher which presents the past, reveals the present and
transformed my personality altogether.
So whatever little successful I am right now is simply because of
test. IBS then uses rubrics to assess the learning.
A large number of Students’ Clubs consisting of
both curricular and extra-curricular activities instill
organizational skills, entrepreneurial spirit, etc., in
our students.
USING RUBRICS
Rubrics are tools to assist in the measurement
process. Rubrics define the various levels of each
of the components of learning in a measurable
way. They assist both the student and the faculty to
clearly identify the level to which the outcome has
been achieved. IBS uses rubrics for assessing the soft
skills and summer internships for its PGPM program.
