Centerville Welcomes New Girls Volleyball Head Coach and Program Director John Buck
Coach Buck has coached volleyball for over 30 years and 20
as the head coach of Toledo St Ursula High School. Under his
tutelage his teams accumulated 477 wins and 69 losses, won
15 league championships, 15 district titles, 12 regional crowns,
four state runner ups and two state championships. His peers
have selected him six times as the D1 state coach of the year,
12 times as the district coach of the year and 11 times as the
league coach of the year.
Coach Buck was also one of the three founding fathers of the
Toledo Volleyball Club. His duties included club director for 12
years, and various coaching assignments from age brackets
13’s to 18’s based on the needs of the club. Most years he
coached the 14-1 team.
Up until 2016, Coach Buck was resident of the Toledo, Ohio
area, hence his love for Detroit Tigers, Lions, Pistons and Red
Wings, and just to the North is his favorite University - Michigan.
to their daughter Michelle, her husband Sam and their five
children.
Coach Buck is looking forward to being part of building a strong
volleyball program here at Centerville High School. He believes
it is important to create a competitive atmosphere where there
is no fear of failure, where the players play for their teammates
first, and at the same time challenge each other, in a positive
way to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the
court.
Coach Buck’s philosophy is fairly simple, “There are no short
cuts to the top” You want to excel at anything you have to be
willing to put in the time and effort to make it happen.
