Still plenty of recreation this summer<br />

The dog days of August are<br />

fast approaching, but there is<br />

still plenty of summer yet to<br />

be had when it comes to the<br />

Lynnfield Recreation summer<br />

programs.<br />

Spots are still available on a<br />

space-available basis for four<br />

upcoming Rec-Venture Week<br />

10 day trips.<br />

The trips are open to children<br />

entering grades three and up.<br />

Kids entering grades nine and<br />

10 are also welcome and will<br />

have the opportunity to stay in<br />

the group of their choice.<br />

All buses depart from and<br />

return to the Lynnfield Middle<br />

School.<br />

Trips may be changed or canceled<br />

due to weather or limited<br />

enrollment.<br />

TreeTop Adventures will be<br />

held Monday, Aug. 19 from 9<br />

a.m.-4 p.m in Canton. TreeTop<br />

Adventures is a high ropes and<br />

obstacle course featuring trails<br />

with zip-lines for beginners to<br />

expert alike.<br />

Obstacles include rolling<br />

logs, bridges, ladders, tight<br />

ropes, zip-lines and more.<br />

Campers should bring their<br />

own lunch and water or money<br />

to buy snacks/lunch. Closed-toe<br />

shoes such as sneakers of other<br />

closed-toed hiking shoes are<br />

recommended. Sandals, ballet<br />

flats, Crocs, or flip-flops are<br />

prohibited. Comfortable athletic<br />

wear or jeans are recommended.<br />

The cost of the trip is<br />

$75.<br />

The annual Rockport/Beach<br />

trip will be held Tuesday,<br />

Aug. 20 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.<br />

Participants will spend the day<br />

exploring Rockport before<br />

heading to the beach.<br />

Children need to bring the<br />

following: bathing suit, towel,<br />

sunblock, spending money and<br />

either a bagged lunch or money<br />

to purchase lunch. The cost of<br />

the trip is $45.<br />

On Wednesday, Aug. 21 Rec-<br />

Venture travels to Malden for a<br />

day at Boda Borg and Park from<br />

9 a.m.-4 p.m. for a day of real-world<br />

gaming and questing.<br />

Participants will compete in<br />

teams of three to five people<br />

who will tackle a variety of<br />

mental and physical challenges.<br />

The day promises to be full of<br />

adrenaline and heart-pumping<br />

excitement.<br />

Comfortable athletic wear or<br />

jeans are recommended. The<br />

cost of the trip is $75.<br />

Campers should bring their<br />

own lunch and water or money<br />

to buy snacks/lunch.<br />

The final Rec-Venture trip<br />

will be Thursday, Aug. 22 at<br />

Boundless Adventure in Berlin,<br />

MA. Campers will be treated to<br />

a fun-filled day (9 a.m.-4 p.m.)<br />

of zip-lining and tree climbing<br />

on age-, height-, and fitness-appropriate<br />

obstacle courses.<br />

Sneakers or other comfortable<br />

closed toe shoes and athletic-type<br />

attire are mandatory.<br />

open-toe shoes are prohibited.<br />

Campers should bring their<br />

to buy snacks/lunch.<br />

The Lynnfield High cross<br />

country team will be holding<br />

a preseason meeting for new<br />

runners and their parents on<br />

Wednesday, Aug 21 at 6 p.m. in<br />

front of the entrance to the high<br />

school gymnasium. Practice<br />

and meet schedules and team<br />

rules will be discussed. The<br />

meeting will be conducted by<br />

head coach Joe DiBiase and<br />

team captains.<br />

All new runners are encouraged<br />

to attend.<br />
