DANCING WITH THE MOON
BY EMMA DESPRÉS
Dancing with the Moon is author Emma
Després’ journey, her way of incorporating
elements of the spiritual and the holistic
into such a clinical process.
Dancing with the Moon by Emma Després
is published by I AM Self-Publishing and is
out now.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
As a yoga teacher and Reiki master, local mum Emma is very much in
tune with energies and connected to all things holistic. At 36, after a year
of trying (and failing) to conceive, her fears were confirmed: she and
her husband were told they may never have children. Humbled by this
sobering truth, she realised she’d have to throw herself into the world of
science, hook, line and sinker, if there was any chance of motherhood.
It was against all of her instincts and everything she believes in, but it was
the only way. Emma doesn’t normally take any medicines and suddenly
was injecting herself with synthetic hormones, having the most invasive
of examinations, and manipulating her hormonal system with drugs.
Of the book Emma says that, 'Although different for each couple, IVF is an
incredibly challenging and exhausting process, both physically, mentally
and emotionally. I hope that in sharing how I navigated my way through
the process, I can help other women feel more at ease and, crucially, able
to maintain a positive mindset on their own IVF journeys.'
DESPRÉS
Did you always hope to a write?
Yes, from childhood I had
always hoped to write a book.
If not, what did you want to
be when you grew up?
I also wanted to be a teacher.
Who are your favourite
three authors?
Tricky question! I love the books
rather than the authors. So, three
of the most impactful books I have
read in recent years might include
Dawna Markova’s 'I Will Not Die
an Unlived Life', Paul Kalanithi’s
‘When Breath Becomes Air’,
and Sharon Blackie’s ‘If Women
Rose Rooted’. I’m partial to the
poetry of Lalla, Hafiz and Rumi
too. And Pema Chodron makes
Buddhism very accessible.
What genre do you most
enjoy reading and why?
Biography. I love reading about
other people’s lives, there is
always something to learn
from them, wisdom to gain.
