Tender awardedforsportshub<br />

LeighsConstruction has won the<br />
tenderfor the new multiuse<br />
sportsfacilityinColdstream<br />
Road, Rangiora.<br />
The new Waimakariri District<br />
Council facility willcost around<br />
$28 million. It willbeabout 6000<br />
squaremetresand house four<br />
indoorcourtsconfigured for<br />
futsall, handball, korfball,<br />
volleyball, netball,badminton<br />
and basketball.<br />
It will also houseacentral<br />
fitness facility, changing rooms,<br />
coaching and meeting spaces, and<br />
seat around 500 spectators.<br />
The facilitywill be sited near<br />
othersporting groundssuch as<br />
the MainPowerOval for cricket,<br />
the WaimakaririHockey Turf and<br />
the MariaAndrews Parkfootball<br />
grounds.<br />
It is alsobeside the land<br />
earmarked for aproposedtennis<br />
club.<br />

finished around May 2021.<br />

The building,designedby<br />
Warren and Mahoneyarchitects,<br />
aims to becomeafocalpoint for<br />
sportinthe district.Ithas been<br />
designed to be efficient, costeffective<br />
and functional as well as<br />
beingattractive,given it will be<br />
visible from all sides.<br />
Once complete, it will be<br />
operatedbythe <strong>North</strong><strong>Canterbury</strong><br />
Sportand Recreation Trust.<br />

the Amberley Domain at<br />
1.30pm this Sunday,<br />
<strong>September</strong> 8.<br />
It promises to be afun day<br />
out, withopportunities for<br />
less fit players to sub on and<br />
off in the 90minutegame.<br />
Therewill be asausage<br />
sizzle during the game for<br />
spectators, and awarding of<br />
the shield afterwards,<br />
accompanied by afew<br />
refreshing beverages.<br />

Show-jumping trip<br />
It promises to be abusy couple<br />
of weeks for Darfield High<br />
School showjumper Georgia<br />
Allison.<br />
The 18yearold will fly out to<br />
Moroccoatthe end of the week<br />
for the GlobalAmateur Tour<br />
where she will ride local horses<br />
in a1.2m jumping contest.<br />
Georgia will then represent<br />
New Zealand at the Marcus<br />
Oldham Australianinterschool<br />
championships at the<br />
Sydney International<br />
Equestrian Centre from<br />
<strong>September</strong> 29 to October 2.<br />
Georgia, who lives in Oxford,<br />
will be part of an eightstrong<br />
all women’s team to compete in<br />
the dressage and showjumping.<br />
However, she will<br />
compete solelyinthe showjumping.<br />
‘‘I’ve been riding<br />
since Iwas born, it feels like. I<br />
did my first competition when I<br />
was two.<br />
‘‘International opportunities<br />
are what I’ve been working<br />
towards for awhile and I’ve<br />
been shortlisted for things but<br />
to get these opportunities is<br />
exciting.<br />
“It will be good to test myself<br />
against international<br />
competitors.’’<br />
Allison is aselfdescribed<br />
perfectionist.<br />
“In Sydneywe’ll only be<br />
jumping 1.<strong>05</strong>m,which will be<br />
differentfrom Morocco, but if I<br />
can be consistentthen I’ll be<br />
