With travel an integral part of her everyday life, it follows that many of the pieces adorning every nook are sourced from abroad. “I collected most of my art pieces from travelling. In New York, I spent a lot of time in galleries and at art exhibitions but when I arrived here I started to get interested in the art of the region – the scene is very rich. Currently, my absolute favourite is Rokni Haerizadeh, an Iranian artist represented in galleries such as Gallery Issabelle Van Den Eynde in Alserkal Avenue.” With a thriving business, adventurous spirit and creative ventures, everyday is a whirlwind in the Sawko household, something that makes time spent with family extra special. “My favourite space in the house is the kitchen. My husband and I work a lot, but here we exchange stories over good food and talk with the kids about their day. It’s a moment that’s warm and precious, and I look forward to it every day.
