From December 13 to 20, 2019, La
Saharienne will raid the heart of Osa in the
South Pacific. For the first time in Costa
Rica, the 100% feminine and supportive
multisport event will take place. In a sporting
and human adventure outside the common,
Las Sahariennes will excel for a week in
multisport disciplines: trail, mountain bike,
canoe, and swimming. The 70 female teams
of two members each, will also tackle tests
such as archery or ax throwing.
The venue of the event will be the centennial
Nieborowsky School in the small town
of Cortes, where accommodation for the
athletes is being prepared. They hope to
create links with the locals, get to know
the culture, and fully share the adventure
between the Pacific Ocean and the Costa
Rican jungle.
La Saharienne is a sporting event with
a philanthropic vocation. The French
association, the organizer of the race, is
dedicated to the fight against violence. The
athletes will donate the prizes resulting from
the competition to related associations.
The organizer, Bruno Pomart, has worked
hard, inspecting the routes for the
competitions with departures from Cortes,
Sierpe, Rincón, and Playa Ballena. Bruno
works with disadvantaged young people
throughout the year, contributing his
experience and supporting solidarity actions
through La Saharienne.
The campaign of Osa Free of Single-Use
Plastic joins the competition. It is part of the
“Tourism Development Triangle” initiative
that aims to activate the economy in the
towns of Puerto Cortés, Palmar and Sierpe.
The outstanding athlete Vianka González, a
native of Osa, will be their dedicated. She is
the best athlete in the history of the winning
Canton in the National Games with 10 Gold
medals and five times Central American
Champion in High Jump events.
The neighbors of Osa are welcoming the
athletes arriving with family and friends
from all over the world!
