Montana's DAR Markers . . . Honoring Where History Was Made

This book is a 200-page thank you to the women of Montana State Society Daughters of the American Revolution for their work in placing historical markers across the state of Montana. Starting in 1908, Montana DAR has installed 70 historical markers across the state. Of those, 33 remain. This book records why the markers’ sites were selected, their history, and the backstory of each.

At the entrance to the drive is a bronze tablet embedded in stone.
Close-by, also located near the bronze tablet, is a small structure with a
red marble rooftop. The top is inscribed with the names of those
honored by the bronze markers originally placed at the foot of each
memorial tree. A granite plaque was placed on the small structure
during the 1986 rededication. It reads: “Shining Mountain Chapter
Daughters of the American Revolution 1927 – Rededicated – 1986.”
The chapter raised $3,000 for the monument.
