Montana's DAR Markers . . . Honoring Where History Was Made

This book is a 200-page thank you to the women of Montana State Society Daughters of the American Revolution for their work in placing historical markers across the state of Montana. Starting in 1908, Montana DAR has installed 70 historical markers across the state. Of those, 33 remain. This book records why the markers’ sites were selected, their history, and the backstory of each.

the Montana State Normal College, also chair of the Beaverhead<br />

Chapter of the Pioneer Trails Association. Other speakers were Dr.<br />

Sheldon E. Davis (“A Fitting Memorial at Beaverhead Rock”), John<br />

Collins (“The Beaverhead County Museum”), W.R. Allen for the<br />

Beaverhead Mining Association (“Historical <strong>Markers</strong> in Beaverhead<br />

County”), Mayor O.T. Vandegrift (“Local Park Areas”), and County<br />

Commissioner Archie Henneberry (“Preservation of Bannack Historical<br />

Site”).<br />

The Beaverhead <strong>DAR</strong> chapter of Dillon, founded on March 10,<br />

1917, merged with Butte’s Silver Bow Chapter on April 18, 1998.<br />
