Montana's DAR Markers . . . Honoring Where History Was Made

This book is a 200-page thank you to the women of Montana State Society Daughters of the American Revolution for their work in placing historical markers across the state of Montana. Starting in 1908, Montana DAR has installed 70 historical markers across the state. Of those, 33 remain. This book records why the markers’ sites were selected, their history, and the backstory of each.

other side. The Lewis and Clark Expedition camped at the original site<br />

on August 17-24, 1805, and Captain Clark also camped here on his<br />

return from the Pacific Northwest in 1806.<br />

The original <strong>DAR</strong> marker site, one-half mile north of Armstead, is<br />

now submerged under Clark Canyon Dam waters. The marker and its<br />

boulder were moved to the east side campground of Clark Canyon<br />

Dam in the early 1960s.<br />

This bronze <strong>DAR</strong> tablet is similar in design to the one erected by<br />

<strong>DAR</strong> at Three Forks. (See Sacajawea Memorial-Three Forks chapter.)<br />
