HUNDRED YEARS
Newport Girls’ High School has delivered an
outstanding education to girls for exactly one hundred
years. Our centenary helps us reflect on our history,
but also to look to the future with our new building.
This state-of-the-art facility provides six classrooms,
a spacious study area with sixth form cafe bar and a
light, airy, welcoming Reception.
So, why NGHS? Firstly, we only offer 90 places per year. This
makes NGHS small enough to feel like a family and our thriving
house system promotes this with the perfect platform for
friendly competition in a range of different activities. Whilst
the school is small, the curriculum is broad. Every student
studies two languages in Year 7 and, whilst the curriculum is
unashamedly academic, students enjoy and excel in Art, Music,
Computing, PE and DT with at least one of these subjects
forming part of the GCSE options process.
Mr Michael Scott is very proud to lead such a wonderful school.
A linguist and musician, he is keen that all students partake in
an international curriculum visit and that the Arts are promoted
within the school. Our parental survey shows that 100% believe
that their daughter is safe in school and that the transition to
high school had been smooth. NGHS appears in the top 10% of
schools nationally for progress from primary school to GCSE
and also for attainment.
As students move through the school, our dedicated staff provide
even greater academic support and further opportunities. All
year groups enjoy extra-curricular clubs; there is something to
suit all tastes. NGHS students also see the world with visits to
places such as India, Germany, France and Belgium.
