NEWS 8 North Canterbury News, October 17, 2019 In brief Paintball appeal Amberley police are calling for help from parents to bring ahalt to aspate of paintbombing of properties in the North Canterbury town. Constable Craig Hawkins is asking parents to talk to their young teens if they own a paintball gun, and point out how expensive and timeconsumingitcan be if they are fired at people’s homes, windows and property.Hesaid in the past couple of weeks properties in Leithfield had been hit by paintballs fired from apassing car. Amberley School has also been hit. Constable Hawkins says the paint can be hard to remove from some surfaces. ‘‘Parents know if their kids have apaintball gun. They need to have abit of achat to them or come into the police station and have achat,’’ he says. Motorwaydiversion Athird concrete pour on the northern motorway bridge will impact traffic from tomorrow (Friday). Northbound lanes of the bridge will be closed and all traffic diverted on to the southbound lanes, with one lane each way. The single bridge configuration will be in place from 6pm, Friday,until 5.30am on Monday. Speed willbe restricted to 60kmh and the New Zealand Transport Agency is asking drivers to merge like azip before the bridge. Closure of the northbound lanes until early Monday morning is to ensure no traffic vibrations occur while the concrete cures. The Tram Road onramp willalso be closed from 7am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday to reduce the traffic before the bridge. Mackenziekept checking on their progress regularly and ensured the hut was warm. ‘‘She absolutely demonstratedincredible leadership, localknowledge, and acted in aresponsible and helpfulway rarelyseenin adults, andwellbeyond the average year 13 student,’’ Ursula says. ‘‘Alongside these extra dutiesthatshe tookonby herself,she continued to also coordinateher party(amix of childrenand adults),cooked dinner/supperfor everyone, organisedsleeping arrangements,cooked breakfast in the morning, organised packing up andcleaning up in atimely andefficient manner, andset offwithher party foranother dayoftrap resetting.’’ Mackenziesays herscouting knowledge and goingon patrols helpedensure ahappy ending.
