Fishing on the River Kenai
Alaska ranks as a premier spot for fishers. The state’s oceans, rivers and lakes are
teeming with salmon, rainbow trout, arctic char and many other challenging sport
fish – it really is an angler’s dream!
While there are many options for exceptional angling, the Kenai River stands out as
offering some of the best fishing in the entire state, particularly for salmon and trout.
The best time to visit the Kenai is in the summer, as many salmon species (including king
salmon) run from May-September – although you’ll find silver salmon as late as November,
and dolly varden and lake trout all year round. Make sure you brush up on local fishing
laws before you plan your trip, as you may need specialist licence stamps to fish certain
species.
For a truly luxurious and relaxed fishing getaway, consider a lodging holiday. Salmon
Catcher Lodge is one of the Kenai Peninsula’s best fishing lodges, offering families and
sportspeople comfortable accommodations in the finest handcrafted spruce log cabins –
and access to unrivalled fishing. Your trip can be planned around the best species to fish
at the time of your visit, and they have expert guides on hand to help you make the most
out of the experience.
Fishing packages are available throughout the year; as part of your stay you can enjoy
such luxurious touches as saunas, hot tubs, fully equipped kitchens, fire pits and fish
processing and freezer facilities. Salmon Catcher Lodge also offers options to ‘build your
own’ adventure, allowing you to tour the Kenai and its surroundings at your own leisure.
