Gazing into the campfire heals your
soul. No doctor can do what a campfire
does. That evening I told Danie to be
very careful when walking out of the
camp at night. There are many lions
and buffaloes roaming around, “you
might just be the next snack”. Danie
looked at me, surprisingly excited. He
did not leave his .375 H&H Luxus for
one second.
The following day I woke Danie up
only to see his .375 H&H laying cozy
next to him by his bed. I almost cracked
myself for not telling him there were
no lions but only buffalo in a separate
camp. After a quick coffee, we went into
different directions in the hunting area.
Unfortunately, my brother wasn’t lucky.
He could not hunt anything on our
trip together. I harvested two impalas
in two days. In both cases, the Swift
A-Frame bullets went straight through
the animals which dropped dead on the
spot. The first impala measured around
22 and a half inches and the second
impala was a huge 26 inches.
Of all my hunting trips, this one
will always be remembered. You don’t
need big guns to take down big things.
All you need is the combination of a
good rifle like a Steyr Mannlicher, Swift
A-Frame ammunition, and a good clear
scope. However, the most important
aspect of any hunt is proper shot
placement. I also advise other hunters
that it is more ethical to hunt bigger
game with a larger caliber. These days
most ammunition on the market for
hunting purposes is far more advanced
than 20 years ago. I’m not worried about
the hunter’s hunting capability, more
concerned about the animal’s behaviour
the moment you pull the trigger. With
a larger caliber, you WILL have a better
chance!
