Singers – Xmas
Programme
THE U3A Vall del Pop Singers have been
busy rehearsing their collection of songs
and carols for Xmas and they started their
programme by opening the entertainment
at the Jalon Valley Help Xmas Fayre on 17th
November.
The Group are keen to support JVH and at
this time of year they regularly entertain people
who are old or in hospital and perform carols
outdoor in the village squares, often with the
support of the children from the local school,
and always with the enthusiastic support of
the people who singing along with the popular
songs.
Their forthcoming programme includes:
3rd December – Benimalli Old
People’s Home
12th December – Fontilles Hospital
17th December – Carols in the Square
Jalon at 5.30pm
18th December – Carols in the Square
Alcalali at 6.30pm.

The U3A is all about enjoyment and learning,
and this is particularly evident in the U3A
Vall del Pop, whose members hold their General
Assembly generally, fiestas and holidays
permitting, on the first Thursday of each month
at the Centre Polivalent in Murla, and have a
diverse range of some 30 groups for the interest
of the members.
Joining the mathematical elite

JAIME Gomez, a leading professor and lecturer
at the Valencia Polytechnic University
(UPV), has been awarded what is largely regarded
as the highest distinction in the field
of mathematics.
The William Christian Krumbein medal is
considered the “Nobel Prize” of mathematics and
is only awarded once every two years, meaning
there have only even been 32 people who have
been given the honour since its inauguration
in 1976. The award is made by the International
Association for Mathematical Geosciences
(IMAG) and is for Mr Gomez’ work in the fields of
informatics, earth sciences and in particular hydrogeology
where he has done valuable work on
the sustainability of aquifers in the Mediterranean
environment in the light of climate change.
The award ceremony will be in Delhi (India)
in March.
