On top of a family tragedy which forced the business to close temporaily, the roadworks were also causing major issues attracting customers. “It has been quieter, it is very hard to make up for all those losses we will never catch up. In any business, you need car parks on the front,” Mr Wah said. But he had very loyal customers who have helped in every way they can. They don’t plan to close. He is concerned businesses on Riccarton Rd will lose most of its car parking following the roadworks. The city council said when DECEMBER specials work is completed there will be time-restricted parking provided to the east of Rotherham St and south of Riccarton Rd. Parking will be provided east of Picton Ave outside the bus lane hours while parking on the north side of the road parking will be retained between Straven Rd and Picton Ave. Parking between Rimu St and Straven Rd was upgraded and P120 time limits before it started work on Riccarton Rd. The 100-page spread dished up recipes, stories and “nuggets of wisdom” from migrants and refugees in Christchurch. The last two years saw the team involved with The Lion Foundation Young Enterprise programme, where the venture was presented to a panel of business experts and the idea came to fruition. Platinum Drive residents are supportive of a one-way system where drivers can enter the Summerset at Wigram premises via Platinum Drive and exit onto Awatea Rd. The solution was suggested at the Halswell- Hornby-Riccarton Community Board recently. But it won’t be making any decisions on solutions to the problem until they have done a site visit to Summerset next Thursday. “We are going to have a site visit and then consider it at a subsequent board meeting,” board chairman Mike Mora said. It is after the board held off a second time on deciding whether to paint yellow lines outside the Mike Mora retirement village. High parking demands have been causing issues in the area due to Summerset staff and commuters parking on Platinum Drive. Summerset at Wigram residents have been calling for yellow lines to be painted near the Platinum Drive entrance to the retirement village. But Platinum Drive residents are worried if yellow lines are painted outside the village staff members and commuters will park outside their properties - shifting the problem. They would instead prefer to see a one-way system installed along with the safety improvements planned for Awatea Rd to be completed in June. A Summerset spokeswoman said it can’t comment on specific plans such as the one-way system until it has seen the detail of what is being proposed. Platinum Drive resident Mel Jackson recently asked the board PROBLEMATIC: Summerset at Wigram residents want yellow lines outside their village due to visibility concerns. to take action with Summerset management and hold them to account regarding their building consent conditions. “The village has a nominated main entrance on Awatea Rd... why is this not being used exclusively for its intended purpose? “The building consent for Summerset facility clearly states that Platinum Drive service entrance is for limited resident use...I have witnessed the lane being used by all ages especially visitors”. Resident Tracy McLean said Summerset was not letting staff use the allocated car parks until its final units are sold. The retirement village had experienced additional cars on site while selling its final units and this was set to reduce by the end of December when the final units sold. But Summerset’s village manager Russell Walters said the 35 car parks on site are for visitors and staff to use. “There are no restrictions on who can use the car park”. Mr Walters said the Platinum Drive entrance is not deemed as a service access in the resource consent but a secondary access to the village. He said the car parking for the village was constructed in accordance to the resource consent for the development of the village granted in 2014. The village’s resource consent recorded there was to be a total of 35 parks for staff and visitors and an additional 174 car parking spaces on-site for villas.
