2019 DCN AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING & MARITIME INDUSTRY AWARDS SAFETY AWARD WINNER LINX CARGO CARE GROUP Anthony Jones, Craig Walker and Michael Kemp accept the award for LINX CCG LINX CCG is an organisation with more than 4000 employees across 70 sites in two countries. In a first for the Australian supply chain and logistics industry, the company released its very own virtual reality safety training platform in March 2019. VR training is enabling LCCG to immerse its personnel in diverse situations and expose them to critical risks in hazardous work environments. The VR platform has enabled LCCG to deliver consistent safety training across all levels of the organisation. This year, the Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards featured a fun photo booth, in partnership with law firm Cusack & Co, where attendees could capture a record of the event with their friends and colleagues. The award was not open for individual nomination – all shipping lines and their agents were automatically judged via an online survey of subscribers to the DCN. SEAFARERS WELFARE AWARD WINNER JOHN KEWA As port chaplain and manager of the Mission to Seafarers Port Kembla, John Kewa has made some outstanding contributions to the welfare of seafarers. This year marks 15 years of dedicated work in his role and he is still actively engaged with the Port Kembla community. John has singlehandedly organised sizeable donations from the main port users which they now make annually, and he has helped resolve a number of crew access and transport issues at Port Kembla. John is one of the two remaining accredited Ship Welfare Visitors Course Trainers, and he would not hesitate to travel across the country to train port chaplains, volunteers and others. John has trained more than 100 people across Australia. HIGHLY COMMENDED Capt. They were variously described as “a young, fresh and dynamic company”, with other references to being “super helpful” and providing “good oldfashioned service”.
