Celebrating 50 years
of dementia care
Clifden House Dementia Care Centre, Seaford, celebrated its
50th anniversary with a party and a fireworks display.
Residents and the care team at Clifden House
were treated to an afternoon disco from
entertainments manager David, with everyone,
irrespective of ability, taking part. Nial Joyce,
whose parents founded the home in 1969, said:
‘It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces at
the party. Even the residents who were unable to
dance were tapping their toes and clearly enjoying
the atmosphere. Life doesn’t end with a dementia
diagnosis and it is still possible to live a life that is
active and engaged. It was a wonderful day and a
great way to mark this important birthday.’

frequent visitor
to the home.
Patricia said;
‘I have many
fond memories
of my time
working at Clifden House and I am very proud
of how the home has evolved under Nial’s
management. This is more than a care home,
it is a community and family, and one that I am
honoured to be a part of.’
Originally opened as a nursing home in 1969,
Clifden House has been a specialist dementia
care centre since 2000. The delivery of care is
focused on reducing unnecessary medication and
sedation in order to release the living potential
of the individual. Residents are encouraged to
take part in a full programme of activities and
trips within their local community, to promote a
fulfilled life.
Following the disco and buffet, residents gathered
to watch a low-level display of fireworks from the
comfort of the conservatory.
A packed calendar of events has been designed
by Clifden House’s activities co-ordinators, to
mark the home’s 50th birthday. Tailored to suit
a range of abilities, it will culminate in a garden
party and staff sports day in summer 2020.
