For Your Delight was a treat of music and words that
raised more than £1,200 for The Youth Counselling
Project. The intimate event, a new one for the
charity, attracted 70 people who sat down to hear
international soprano Dame Felicity Lott, violinist and
director of the Corelli Ensemble Maeve Jenkinson,
pianist Will Hancox and poet Peter Martin deliver a
mix of short pieces that tapped into every emotion
from nostalgia to laughter.
primary schools to receive therapy from appropriately
and specially trained counsellors in response to
disturbing statistics which show that 10% of children
will experience mental health
problems and may self harm before
the age of 18. This programme is paid
for with a mix of corporate funding
and locally raised monies via such
events as a regular quiz at The Old
Plough, a fashion show at M&Co and
a mid-summer party. This year Seaford
Town Council Mayor, Cllr Nazish Nadil,
has joined other generous individuals
who raise money with events and
adopted the Project as one of her charities. A fashion
show of clothing by M&Co two weeks later raised
£407 for the Project.
Seasons, Strauss’s Morgen and – to enormous applause
– Felicity Lott concluding a fun second half with Noel
Coward’s comical The Bar on the Piccolo Marina.
Peter Martin, who donated his services, also gave £2
from the sales of each of his new anthology, Flight
Feathers. The book was published in November and
can be bought at Sussex Stationers and the Crypt
Gallery, price £8.50, with illustrations by Rye wildlife
artist Robert Greenhalf. Topics include three poems
about Seaford’s cafés, one about the town’s coat of
arms and another featuring a carving on the cliffs at
Splash Point. Two songs have accompanying music.
Chair Julia Hancock said afterwards: ‘It was a very good
evening, with a well thought out programme giving
something for everyone. It was so good to see a set of
new faces asking about The Youth Counselling Project
and expressing an interest.’ Thanks also to Seaford
Martello Rotary Club whose team ran the bar.
The Project seeks to raise money to pay currently
for 60 students from the town’s comprehensive and
