New sculpture ... Agiant eel water feature, commissioned by Kaiapoi developer<br />
Jedd Pearce and made by Kaiapoi multimedia artist Mark Larsen, has been installed in<br />
the courtyard of the new Riverside retail development, on Williams Street, alongside<br />
the Port And Eagle Brewpub.<br />

Eel sculpture draws<br />
admirers in Kaiapoi<br />

Agiant eel swimming in Kaiapoi’s<br />
central business district is attracting a<br />
lot of attention.<br />
The eel is part of awaterfeature<br />
sculpture installed in the courtyard of<br />
the new Kaiapoi riverside retail<br />
development alongside the Port and<br />
Eagle Brewpub in Williams St.<br />
The sculpture, of the largest<br />
recorded longfin eel ever caught in<br />
New Zealand —a24kg female —was<br />
installed on December 19.<br />
The eel was caught at Otago’s Lake<br />
Waihola, near Milton, in 1974.<br />
The eel in the water feature has<br />
been named Tuhono Tuna.Tuna is the<br />
Maori word for eel.<br />
The work was ordered by Kaiapoi<br />
developer Jedd Pearce and made by<br />
local multimedia artist Mark Larsen.<br />

Welfare Fund on<br />
Waitangi Day,<br />
February 6.<br />
The annual Waitangi<br />
Day Vintage Car and<br />
Tractor run will see<br />
vehicles lining up at<br />
the Percival Street<br />
RSA car parkbefore<br />
setting off.<br />
Registrations for<br />
tractors will be taken<br />
from8.30am,and cars<br />
from9.15am.<br />
Tractors will beginto<br />
rollout on the run to<br />
the LoburnDomain<br />
from9am, and cars<br />
from10am, where the<br />
participants will stop<br />
for lunch.<br />
Tractors cost $5 and<br />
cars$10 to enter,with<br />
the money donated to<br />
the welfare fund.<br />
