We have some of the best volunteers in the whole world. The volunteers
of FRC are some of the most dedicated individuals in our community. Whether it's 100 degrees
in the summer or pouring down rain, you will always find our volunteers with a smile on their
face. We would not be able to hold any of our shows, clinics, or seminars without these individuals.
On January 18 th we had the pleasure of recognizing these outstanding individuals and thanking for
their hard work this past year.
FRC Scholarship Reminder
One of the perks of being an FRC member, is that you are eligible to apply
for one of the four $250 Member Scholarships that we award each year.
Scholarships can be used in a variety of ways. In the past, they have been used for riders to
defer the cost of going to events such as championship competitions, rare educational opportunities,
or clinics applicable to your discipline. There are only a few requirements to be
considered for a scholarship. You must be a member at the time of your application, and
you also must be willing to share the knowledge you gained through your scholarship experience
with the club in some way (ideas must be approved by the scholarship committee).
This could be a short presentation at one of our seminars, info table or infographic at shows,
newsletter report, etc.
Want to apply for a scholarship, but not sure if your endeavor would be approved- don’t worry!
The application is short, sweet and to the point. If there happens to be an influx of applicants
at any deadline, volunteer service to the FRC in the current and preceding membership
year will be considered when awarding scholarships. Application deadlines are April
1 st , July 1 st , October 1 st , and January 1 st depending on the date of the event. Any member
is eligible to apply!
Calling All Volunteers! FRC Needs YOU!
We can’t run all of our great shows, events, clinics, and seminars without some help
from our awesome membership, and there are some great perks!
Volunteers earn $10 club bucks for up to a half-day of volunteering, $20 for a full day,
or $30 for set up of a horse show. “Club bucks” can be used for membership, shows,
clinics, and many other club activities.
Poplar Ridge Equestrian would like to share some news!
This year has brought about many changes for our program.
Though we started out as a large lesson program focusing in the h/
j arena; we’ve slowly been shifting our focus to the dressage ring.
2018 was a year full of firsts for my wife and me. Training with Jodi
Lees, we showed throughout the region earning several awards.
Ashley and Ben worked their way up from first level, finishing in
fourth level, earning her bronze medal and halfway to her silver.
Ben earned the National Pony Cup Champion title at one our
shows in the summer and placed 4th, 5th and 6th in the National
Pony Cup year end awards for 4th, 2nd, and 3rd level respectively.
All of our scores qualified us for our first Regionals experience
where we earned respectable scores once again.Lets not forget
that Ben is approaching 20 years old! At the same time, AJ and
Marty made their debut in the dressage ring this year, earning
High Point Adult Amateur at one of their shows, a year end placing with a 70.7% in the Goodhorseman
Foundation and made their way to regionals as well. We love playing in the sandbox
and have big goals for this coming up season!
Carolyn West, Dressage Instructor for Motlow Creek Equestrian Center,
will be moving to Texas in March to join
her daughter Bailey West at Bailey
Ranch Breeders. Bailey is expecting a
baby in April and has five mares expecting
foals this spring so Carolyn will
be busy!
Carolyn will be greatly missed by her
students and the Foothills community.
Janet Stone said, “Carolyn has been
my instructor since she moved here in
2004. I will definitely miss her positive
instruction. She helped take my homebred
DeLovely to the USDF Dressage
Nationals where they won Reserve
Champion Training Level . But most of all I shall miss her friendship.”
