Horse of the Month
February's horse of the month is on one of
FRC’s board members, KC Betzel’s horse
Zak! A registered Mustang, “Tomorrow’s
Sun”, affectionately known as Zak, is the
quintessential ambassador for his breed!
Zak joined her family as KC’s daughter's first
horse, after 2 ponies. Her reasoning being
he was not too big about 15h, he was the
perfect age, 8 and possessed a great sense
of self-preservation. Together they earned
her daughter’s USPC C3 rating & competed
thru Preliminary level eventing.
Zak did not want to be sold to a new home, becoming
“lame” every time someone would
come to ride him. By default he became KC’s
new dressage partner filling the shoes of her
very talented Oldenburg mare who developed
career ending navicular. Together Zak and KC
have climbed the levels earning her USDF
Bronze and Silver medals in addition to half of
the scores needed for the Gold Medal! Zak has
the best "can-do" attitude of ANY horse she
has ever had the honor to ride. The spring of
2019, at 23 years of age, Zak and KC competed
at Grand Prix trying to earn those elusive two
60% scores needed to complete the USDF Gold
Medal requirements, however doing the Grand
Prix movements and putting it all together in a
test are two different things….extremely
tough! Zak tried his heart out for KC and now
he is enjoying a well earned retirement lifestyle!
Congratulations Zak and KC for all of their
achievements together and being our very first
horse of the month!
