I couldn’t drive a stick. He taught

me in my apartment parking lot.

SS: Mine? It was a ‘99 Ford Ranger.

BK: First Porsche?

SS: That would be our 944; we

found it on FB Marketplace. We

took it for a drive and decided we

weren’t going to buy it. As we drove

away, we started talking about it

more and sure enough, I made a

U-turn and we went back to buy it.

That was September 2017.

KS: Of course, once we had it

home, like all older cars it needed

repairs and we would be out in the

apartment parking lot at all hours

doing repairs. Then one day Scott’s

dad appeared with a trailer and took

it home with him. Once he had it,

he would send us pictures of our car

with another 944, then another. As

it turned out, his dad bought three

other 944s just for the parts!

BK: So you come from a car background?

SS: I do. My mom and dad both

are car people and used to be club

racers and paid instructors. My

mom had a 1979 Porsche 930

and my dad a 1983 Lamborghini

Countach, which he still has.

BK: The 930 is the one you now have?

SS: Yes it is! My mom gave it to me

as a graduation present. It’s black on

white, and has some factory upgrades,

making it very similar to a 934.

BK: When we first met you had your

914 out. Tell me about it.

KS: It started after a tour of Auto Atlanta.

There was an orange one they were

restoring there and I fell in love with it.

SS: Well, my dad had the 944 so

we were without a Porsche and we

decided to start looking for a 914.

We made several attempts to buy

one, but each time we found one,

it would sell out from under us. So

in November 2018, we found one

on Craigslist. It’s a ‘73 Sunflower

Yellow 1.7 liter.

KS: Well it was a 1.7 until we recently

did an engine swap to a 2.0 liter.

SS: And she does mean WE! Katie

is right there with me working on it

and we’re both covered in motor oil.

And there you have it . . . Driving

Friendships!
