EDITOR’S NOTE
“Travel brings power and love back to your
life”, so goes a famous quote by a Persian
poet, Rumi and at no time does this feel
more true than with this month’s issue of
finding wellness. From the azure waters
of Mauritius, to a historic hotel with
a contemporary interior in Tokyo; in this issue, we
celebrate the trying of new things, of going to places
we’ve never been before. If Stockholm wasn’t on your
list before, it certainly will be soon!
Wellness, after all, is about the mind, body and soul
and sometimes a good dose of a new experience
is enough to awaken a part of ourselves we hadn’t
known existed.
Our cover personality, Landy Yeam, leads the charge,
as this visionary businesswoman talks about what
sparked her yachting business and her hopes for
creating memorable experiences for her customers.
Meanwhile, we dive deep into what makes Sir James
Dyson, the man who has transformed the way we
look at products and technology create products that
are elegant and easy to use by every household. We
also feature talented architect and designer, Mac
Stopa who was in Malaysia recently, to share his story
behind his award - winning River collection that was
inspired by mother nature herself.
This season’s fashion takes a minimalist approach
to your wardrobe with elegant essentials, while
embracing the season’s chic silhouettes, heavy fabrics
and sleek cuts. Complete the look by combining the
coolest accessory - the Acer Swift 7 to satisfy your
every desire.
Finally, reaping the simple pleasures of the season, we
tried out five delicious and hearty vegetarian meals at
Tropicana Golf & Country Resort that is inherently
nutritious and satisfying. By taking charge of your
health and wellness, you can improve your mind and
soul wherever you go.
Cheers to your wellness!
the spirits in our world relate to the rest of the universe. Cheong
also explores the idea of the future by taking inspiration from
in showcasing a spiritual realm that is based on the nature of
our own world. She is also the recipient of the Fukuoka Art
A dialogue between historical and contemporary Chinese
design, juxtaposing embroidered masterworks by China’s
foremost couturière with Chinese artworks from the Asian
Civilisations Museum. Guo Pei’s dramatic, sculptural gowns
reflect influences from growing up in Beijing surrounded by
Chinese imperial art and mythology. Her creations express
her personal take on contemporary fashion and aesthetics.
Exploring her impact on everyday lives beyond the runway,
the exhibition presents several of Guo Pei’s intricate Chinese
bridal gowns – including two directly inspired by artworks in
the Asian Civilisations Museum collection.
The 1960s - 1990s mark a critical turning point in Asia’s post-war history.
The three decades saw radical changes in society, such as ideological
confrontations, rise in capitalism, rapid modernisation, and democratic
movements. In partnership with the Museum of Modern Art Tokyo
(MOMAT) and the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Korea
(MMCA), this travelling exhibition spotlights a crucial time where
artists and publics understood and asserted their identities through
art. Awakenings continues National Gallery Singapore’s trajectory in
broadening and deepening the scholarship that critically situates Asia in
global art history.
Revolutionary
Pool Solutions
With its expansive range of pool
products, De POOLman continues to
help its clients transform their ordinary
pools into exciting multipurpose
spaces with resounding success.
The sole swimming pool product retailer
and wholesaler carrying CE-certified aqua
gym equipment in Malaysia, De POOLman
has been living up to its promise that their
clients’ swimming pools will never be
boring since it was established in 2011. It
has largely accomplished this by making
available the latest future-facing pool
products which make every swimming
pool more fun, enjoyable and functional.
As a result, every moment spent in a pool
equipped with one of its products is a
wholesome and entertaining experience.
Swimming pools have almost become
home staples over the years as a means
of relaxation and beautifying the exterior.
However, interest in them has waned due
to decreased usage stemming from a lack
of awareness that they can be more than
just that. This conundrum has been recently
solved with the introduction of aqua gyms
which are gaining traction especially
among well-known property developers
such as Tropicana Corporation Berhad.
De POOLman’s range of available products
is as varied as it is reliable, being produced
by the most reputable brands across the
globe which include Waterco, Emaux Water
Technology, Davey and Pentair. In addition
to being a manufacturer representative
and the only local and regional supplier
of CE-certified aqua gym equipment, it
is the importer and sole distributor of
HydroRider, Aqquatix from Italy, Emaux
from Australia, Pool Stone from Greece
and Pool Biking from Spain.
As expected, one of the company’s key
product types is aqua gym equipment which
is immensely popular due to the many
health benefits of using them as opposed
to traditional gym equipment on land.
Due to factors such as water resistance
and hydrostatic pressure, exercising in the
water is not only more efficient but also less
taxing on the body in terms of long-lasting
damage. Additionally, they are excellent
options for people who want to spend time
in the pool but cannot swim and the elderly.
Another innovative product sold by the
company is pool covers which offer
homeowners the option of turning their pool
into a versatile space among other attractive
benefits. With a pool cover installed, pools
will be kept clean with minimal cleaning,
made safe when not in use and blend in with
the surrounding landscape.
Swimming pools have also gotten a
makeover thanks to the introduction of
swim jets which generate currents in the
pools in which they are installed. This turns
any regular pool into the equivalent of a
water-based treadmill as homeowners will
be able to exercise by swimming without
needing an Olympic-size pool. There are
even plug-in models which do not require
extensive remodelling of the pool.
Last but not least is the latest innovation
which is the robotic pool cleaner such as
those in the Dolphin robotic pool cleaners
by Maytronics. Offering efficient and
effective automated high-performance
pool cleaning, these machines guarantee
constantly clean pools with minimal
effort. Furthermore, they are incredibly
environmentally-friendly as they reduce
water wastage, consume less electricity
than traditional pool cleaners and use less
chemicals. TM
October 24, 2019
The Terminator first said “I’ll
be back” in 1984. He was
right, several times over, but
no one expected him to still
be back 35 years later. Turns
out, Arnold Schwarzenegger,
Linda Hamilton, and franchise
co-creator James Cameron are
all returning for Terminator
6, also known as Terminator:
Dark Fate, a direct sequel to their Terminator 2: Judgment Day. In
February 2019, Cameron revealed that Terminator: Dark Fate will
deal with how time and dealing with “tragic futures” has changed
Sarah (Linda Hamilton’s character) and show her passing the torch
of knowledge for all this imminent doom to new characters.
End Self-Sabotage and Demand Your Life Back
Be Happy, Always
By Xandria OoI
Nobody teaches you how to be happy. We
learn how to be successful in our careers, but
are expected to navigate through everything
that life throws at us. Often we make
mistakes trying to understand how to be
happy with ourselves, how to be happy with
someone else, and how to be happy with
our life. Be Happy, Always spots the pitfalls
of life and shares the wisdom and courage
to navigate through everyday issues. Over
five illuminating chapters, Xandria Ooi
speaks to you with honesty and empathy,
like someone who knows what you need and
offers you perspectives that can help you
figure out what to do to lift yourself up and
be happy even when life is challenging.
How to Ikigai :
Lessons for Finding
Happiness and Living
Your Life’s Purpose
By Tim Tamashiro
Ikigai is a concept that comes from
Okinawa, Japan. A simple but abstract
map for living a meaningful life that
focuses on four directions: Do what you
love, Do what you’re good at, Do what
the world needs and Do what you can
be rewarded for. Seem simple enough
but deceivingly difficult to do. This book
will transform ikigai from its abstract
form into a simple practice that is within
reach for anyone. The key is to start with
part-time ikigai.
Everything Is F*cked :
A Book About Hope
By Mark Manson
This new book from Mark Manson is a
counterintuitive guide to the problems of
hope. Materially, everything is the best it’s
ever been - we are more free, healthier
and wealthier than any people in human
history. Yet, somehow everything seems
to be irreparably wrong, despite having
access to technology, education and
communication our ancestors couldn’t
even dream of, so many of us have an
overriding feeling of hopelessness. With
his usual mix of wittiness, Mark challenges
us to be more honest with ourselves and
connected with the world in ways we
probably haven’t considered before.
Girl, Stop Apologizing
By Rachel Hollis
In Girl, Stop Apologizing, the New
York Times bestselling author and
founder of a multimillion-dollar media
company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wakeup
call. She knows that many women
have been taught to define themselves
in light of other people - whether as
wife, mother, daughter, or employee -
instead of learning how to own who
they are and what they want. With a
challenge to women everywhere to stop
talking themselves out of their dreams,
Rachel talks about the excuses to let
go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the
skills to acquire on the path to growth,
confidence, and believing in yourself.
Cruising into the sunset on a luxury yacht
seems only a dream for most people, even
for many among the wealthy and affluent.
It’s just an idea that not many would even
think of when it comes to holidays, or even
special celebrations. However, for Landy
Yeam this is a dream that she wants more Malaysians to have
and wants to help Malaysians achieve that dream.
Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ediracle Sdn
Bhd, Landy sees her business of leasing yachts for hourly,
daily and short-term rentals, events and special occassions as
the gateway to creating happy memories and good feelings.
This is what Landy feels every time she vacations on a yacht
in one of her favourite places in the world, Halong Bay in
Vietnam.
“I’ll always get the VIP package and extend for a few
more days up to a week when I’m there,” she shares. “The
moment I stay on a boat, I experience a different level of
thinking. I really feel at peace, and enjoy every moment on
deck.” Landy says that staying on a boat is how she recharges
herself, “Our worklife is often busy, with no time to relax,” she
explains, “Staying on a boat is a release for me, and refreshes
my body and mindset.”
Everyone should try this
experience (being on a yacht)
at least once in their life.
I can’t describe the amazing
feeling one gets.
From her boating holidays, this got
Landy to thinking on how she can share
the experience with more people. It doesn’t
necessarily have to be to Halong Bay either;
she could find a way to bring it to other
countries.
This was how Ediracle started. Believing
in the power of recharging the mind, body and
soul through unique, relaxing experiences,
the name of the company comes from the
word ‘miracle’ combined with the letters ‘E’
representing “Excellence in service” and ‘D’
for “Dedication” as well as “Diligence” in
doing their best for their clients.
An IT graduate, Landy had been running
her own IT services company since 2014,
but decided to start Ediracle in 2017 to offer
this unique service – a new way to holiday
for most Malaysians in the country. Initially,
the business distributed French jet capsule
watercrafts in Malaysia, but Landy came to
realise that there weren’t as many buyers for
the boat to keep the business sustainable and
decided to widen her reach by bringing more
variety to her product offerings so that more
people could enjoy their services.
“Dedication” as well as “Diligence”
“What we do is provide the watercraft
as well as services for whatever event or
occasion you’d like to do onboard,” Landy
explains. “But we focus on quality, instead of
quantity, so it’s nothing like the major mega
cruises. Think of a holiday or a private event
with only your closest family members or
best friends, allowing you to fully enjoy the
moment.” In the past, a yachting holiday
would usually be too expensive for the
typical Malaysian, given the high price of
such luxury watercrafts. However, Ediracle’s
business model of managing short-term
rentals for boat owners willing to let their
yachts out allows the experience to be a
more democratic holiday, offering all-in
holiday packages at more attainable prices.
Networking with overseas partners, the
company is able to offer packages to holiday
in more than 60 destinations worldwide,
providing everything the client might need
from food and beverage onboard, to water
activity setups, even accommodation on land
should the client need so after disembarking
the boat.
“Basically, we tailor the package to the
needs of the client,” says Landy. This could
be a two days, one night package for a
10-person wedding party that includes meals
and a wedding photoshoot, or supplying
water jet skis for the enjoyment of clients
and their guests while sailing on the seas.
For Landy, the most important aspect of the
business is ensuring that clients come away
from the experience with a great experience
and memories – circling back to why she
wanted to start the business in the first place.
for anyone until you try it out for yourself,
because this memory is all yours and unique
to you and your loved ones.”
“In fact, our slogan is “Connect
Everyone’s Feelings” because during the time
you are at sea, or even on the beach, only you
and your family or friends know that exact
feeling – creating memories over a shared
bond,” Landy further explains.
Looking back on when she started
Ediracle, Landy remarks how she never
thought she would be running such a business.
I have dreams, and for me,
you have two choices - either
continue to dream on a bed or go
out and make it a reality
The fourth of eight siblings growing up on a
fruit orchard somewhere in Selangor, where
she is now is a far cry from her beginnings.
Looking forward, Landy definitely has plans
to offer more services, including a private
jet version of her current business, but she’s
really taking it one step at a time.
“Honestly, I have no idea what lies ahead
for me,” says Landy. “But I have my dreams,
and for me you have two choices: continue to
dream your dream in bed, or go and make
your dream come true.”
The River Chair is weatherproof and designed with a built-in water
drainage system that makes it ideal for outdoor use.
With furniture design and
architectural projects in various
parts of the world, Mac Stopa
has built a body of work
that beautifully incorporates
mathematics and geometry in
every piece. An award-winning architect and designer, Mac’s
passion for modularity, sculptural shapes and digital arts
drives him to create modular art that introduces innovation
to a space and allows users to interact with the piece.
His work spans various disciplines – architecture, interior
design, industrial design, graphic design, art and fashion –
with multinational corporations a big part of his clientele.
Visitors to Warsaw, the capital city of Poland can view some
of his architectural projects including the futuristic building
housing the Genesis restaurant, and Art Walk, an organicshaped
open-air art gallery. Both are part of the European
Square located in downtown Warsaw, which also includes
the Warsaw Spire office complex for which Mac designed the
buildings’ modern lobby interiors.
He is also behind the design of the Warsaw Hub,
a transportation centre – connected to subway stations,
restaurants and offices – that is still under construction.
THE HOME
The Riverside Chair was first presented in 2016 at the Salone del Mobile Milano
and has since then been awarded 7 design awards.
Inspired By Nature
Interior design enthusiasts in Malaysia had a chance to meet
the man himself in Kuala Lumpur during the exclusive
launch of Mac’s River collection under the leading Italian
furniture brand, Tonon. The launch – both Tonon and the
River Collection - was organised by Chesters Collection, a
prominent interior home and office furnishing enterprise,
which coincided with the grand opening of its new sprawling
showroom in Bangsar.
Conceptualised in 2015, the River collection denotes an
organic design that pays homage to nature. According to Mac,
its clean sculptural shapes look like an undulating pattern of
waves left in the sand, scraped over time by wind and water.
The collection’s modular and functional attributes also amp
up its versatility for both outdoor and indoor applications.
In an interview, Mac explains, “The lines on the pieces
are set in different dimensions and flowing, because nature is
never static. And on the inside of the chair, where we sit, the
geometry is reversed because we have to balance comfort and
aesthetics.”
gives a pleasant sensation of softness and comfort.
Create your own design with the Riversnake poufs as it
can be used singularly or joined together for an unlimited
number of combinations.
This collection encompasses, among others, Riverside,
River Snake, River Stone and River Stone Table. Riverside
is an armchair which boasts a 3D geometric exterior made of
polyurethane skin and comes equipped with a built-in water
drainage system while River Snake is a pouf that can be used
as a single entity or as modules with an infinite number of
combinations. The diverse use of River Stone as a seat, pouf
or a stool makes it suitable for private and public settings. Its
counterpart, River Stone Table caters for all living spaces and
doubles up as a seat as well.
Mac has incorporated into the core of each design piece
a material called “Soft Touch Plus”, constructed from bicomponent
moulded polyurethane. This technology produces
a soft and comfortable finish that is beyond compare.
What is more important is that the entire collection is
lightweight, fire-retardant, water-resistant, non-toxic and 100
per cent hygienic.
The modular River Stone poufs come in two sizes and
is durable, comfortable and waterproof.
With the Riversnake you can create a wavy line, a flower or a circle as
an aluminium linking system presents new creations from unfastening.
Light and easy to move, Riverside chairs can be placed anywhere in the home.
Design Philosophy
So how does this innovative designer gets inspiration? Mac
had shared in a previous interview that he tries not to limit
himself when it comes to furniture or interior design. “I try
to use the experience I gather from being involved in interior
design to connect with other experiences like furniture design.
Then I use both these experiences in architecture, graphics
or fashion design because you can learn and try new creative
ways to connect between small and large scale works. When
you make all these connections, there is no limit, and you can
open new avenues.”
And with the emergence of 3D printing technology, Mac
believes that that will solve a lot of manufacturing difficulties
and make the impossible, possible. “ Several years from now,
this technology will not be exclusive or expensive. And what
is good about 3D printing is that the technology will be more
green as it reduces waste material and also more energy
efficient,” he shares.
Well known designer Mac Stopa is known
for creating products that combine
essential lines, unique shapes and
functional design.
Minister of Education, Dr. Maszlee
Malik has indicated that technical
and vocational education and
training (TVET) is the key to drive
the country’s development, yet only
5.6% of students, which is around
22,000, are enrolled in TVET programs in 2018. Hence, the
ministry is committed to increase the quality of the courses so
that it becomes the primary choice for students.
The Ministry of Education recently signed a certificate
of collaboration (CoC) with Berjaya Corp. Bhd., Top Glove
Corp. Bhd., Tropicana Corp. Bhd. and Naza Group to
upgrade TVET. Other than that, four oil and gas companies
from Johor and Perak as well as several financial and banking
institutions have expressed interest to collaborate with the
Ministry of Education.
Dr Maszlee also said TVET is important in alleviating
the mismatch in supply and demand of skills, future-proofing
of students towards the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4.0).
This include collaboration with Malaysia Digital Economy
Corporation (MDEC) and ME.REKA Makerspace to provide
learning experience compatible with IR 4.0, as well as the
introduction of cybersecurity courses in three art universities.
The collaboration would emphasise the provision of training,
facilities, workshops, career opportunities and networks for
TVET students.
throughout the course.
One of the signature hole is the par-four sixteenth hole,
with curvy white sand bunker along the lake from tee-off till
putting green. It becomes more challenging as you progress
and it will be a tough finish to the opening half because of
the four bunkers standing on the right at 150 yards. It defies
even the best player strategic plans before hitting the golf ball!
Perfect
Partners
Chopard celebrates its new partnership with Zagato with a
chronograph worthy of Mille Miglia, the Italian vintage endurance race.
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
46
Alove of fine mechanics, a passion for
design, respect for tradition, and an
attraction to racing and performance are
all common denominators that brought
Chopard and Zagato together. Both first
crossed paths during Mille Miglia rallies
and there was bound to be a perfect understanding between
the watchmaker and the Italian car designer.
Chopard has created some extraordinary timepieces
inspired by the classic car rally. As a tribute to the 100th
anniversary of Zagato, the last independent Italian car
designer and initiator of the Total Design Studio concept for
brands such as Porsche, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini,
Alfa Romeo and Bentley, the maison introduced a new
100-piece limited edition timepiece called the Mille Miglia
Classic Chronograph Zagato 100th Anniversary Edition.
It’s worth noting that this limited release isn’t the maiden
collaborative effort by both houses. In 2013, Chopard
introduced the Mille Miglia Zagato Chronograph collection
with the pragmatic GMT complication. This year’s collection,
however, has shifted away from the rugged look of DLCcoated
stainless steel in favour of a classic mirror polished
finish. The placement of subdials has also been adjusted with
seconds now occupying 3 o’clock, minutes at 9 o’clock and
hours at 6 o’clock.
The Zagato aesthetic has nevertheless cascaded onto
the new limited-to-100-piece chronograph. Especially eyecatching
is the red-lacquered dial with the Z motif repeated
throughout, striking a distinctive contrast between the deeper
shade of the Z motif and the brighter tone of the red dial.
The 12 o’clock Arabic numeral frequently seen on the Mille
Miglia collection is replaced by a rhodium-plated Zagato
logo, while the watchmaker’s logo and the red Mille Miglia
logo reside below.
THE TIME
Andrea Zagato & Karl-Friedrich Scheufele
Given the 42mm piece centres around automotive,
the crown has maintained its unique Mille Miglia design
reminiscent of a vintage three-spoke steering wheel. The
pushers that activate the chronograph are inspired by the
piston found within internal combustion engines.
Like many Chopard watches that have been
independently tested for their accuracy, the automatic
movement of the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Zagato
100th Anniversary Edition is on par with the stringent
standards set by the COSC. Hence, it can proudly declare so
on its dial: chronometer. The strap too is given a makeover as
the customary tyre tread rubber and perforated leather straps
give way to a grained black calfskin leather strap.
On top of that, Chopard has also included a bund strap
for an added sporty appeal that harks back to the olden days
where a bund strap was worn on top of a leather jacket to
enhance the traction between the watch and the garment in
order to prevent the watch from sliding loosely on the wrist
when cornering at high speeds. Turning the caseback over,
the wearer is greeted by a transparent sapphire crystal that is
laser engraved with the Zagato 100th Anniversary logo. The
rear bezel also indicates that the watch is a numbered piece.
Chopard has been a partner of the Mille Miglia race
for over three decades. The relationship was born out of
the watchmaker’s co-president Karl-Friedrich Scheufele’s
passion for classic cars. It was during one such gruelling
1,600km loop race (mille miglia means 1,000 miles in Italian)
originating from Brescia to Rome and back that Scheufele
acquainted with Andrea Zagato, grandson of the founding
family of the Milan-based coachbuilder. Sharing a perpetual
interest in motorsport, mechanical excellence and luxury, the
duo’s friendship blossomed and eventually led to Chopard
becoming the official sponsor of the Scuderia Sports Zagato,
a racing team competing in historic vehicles which was
founded in 2009.
The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph Zagato 100th
Anniversary Edition is as much a testament to their friendship
as it is an encapsulation of both houses’ spirit devoted to
attention to detail, mechanical ingenuity and aesthetic
elegance evident in their watches and automobiles. With Mille
Miglia’s pedigree firmly rooted in classic motor racing, it is
thus an apt horological canvas for a few brushes of Zagato’s
coup de maître.
A Watch Icon
In homage to Gérald Genta, Bulgari releases an anniversary timepiece
that brings one of his classic designs back to life
This story first appeared in Augustman magazine
Panthère de Cartier Manchette
THE LATE GÉRALD Genta
never liked wearing watches. “For
me, watches are the antithesis of
liberty. I am an artist, a painter.
I hate having to adhere to the
constraints of time. It irritates me,”
he once said in an interview. It’s ironic, considering that
the designer was directly responsible for some of the
most iconic timepieces of all time. His portfolio boasts
such classics as the Royal Oak, the Nautilus, and of
course the Bulgari Bulgari, which has its logotype
boldly engraved on its bezel, almost like a declaration.
Bulgari’s relationship with the designer and his
namesake brand went beyond design. About two
decades ago, Bulgari acquired the Gérald Genta
brand from Singapore’s luxury watch retailer The
Hour Glass. As part of the deal, the Italian house also
purchased the manufacture that produced Genta’s
watches. To say the acquisition has helped Bulgari’s
watchmaking division would be an understatement.
As well, the watchmaking spirit of Vallée de Joux has
thrived in Bulgari, resulting in many advances for
the brand in the realm of fine watchmaking, one of
which we will get to later in this story.
But first, this: 2019 marks the 50th anniversary
of the founding of the Gérald Genta brand, and to
celebrate this milestone, Bulgari unveiled the Gérald
Genta 50 th Anniversary Watch.
Baignoire Allongée with diamonds set dial
When Past And Present Meet
The watch itself is an eye-catching piece of
work. The designer might not have invented
the jumping hour mechanism but he was
definitely enamoured by it, considering the
number of watches designed by him that
bore this complication. The Mickey Mouse
watches spring to mind. It was only right,
then, that Bulgari used it with the retrograde
minutes complication – another Gérald
Genta signature. There’s no denying the
pleasure of seeing the hand jump back to
the 00 numeral at the start of every hour.
The cerulean blue dial is also pleasing to the
eye and a clever homage to Gérald Genta’s
design language, while still retaining Bulgari’s
essence with its understated look. Enthusiasts
of the late watchmaker’s work will also
recognise the case and crown design, both
rendered in platinum this time.
The crowning piece on this elegant
timepiece? A retrograde date that runs
parallel to the minutes display. The watch is
powered by Bulgari’s workhorse calibre BVL
300 beating at a standard 28,800vph, with a
fairly nominal 42-hour power reserve.
A Solid Addition
Beyond the Gerald Genta name and the
cachet that it comes with, the acquisition
also gave Bulgari the push it needed to take
its watchmaking efforts to the next level.
This is most apparent in its Octo collection.
First launched in 2012, the range represents
Bulgari’s finest and most advanced work in
haute horlogerie. Most folks will recognise the
watchmaker’s continuous efforts in pushing the
envelope of thinness. One of them, the Octo
Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic, held two
simultaneous world records – world’s thinnest
automatic and thinnest tourbillon. This year,
the brand took the same watch and cased it in
black carbon fibre. The result is a timepiece
that weighs an incredibly light 48 grams. Only
50 pieces are available. If black carbon isn’t
your style but you’re still enamoured by the
sculptural case of the Octo range, Bulgari has
also released new editions of the Roma and
L’Originale Solotempo, each a solid addition
to the brand’s portfolio of timepieces that
offer a decidedly Italian take on watchmaking.
For now, you can look forward to the Italian
watchmaker’s next record breaker.
Panthère de Cartier Manchette
Inspiration
From The Past
Behold the beauty of Cartier’s Panthère de Cartier bejewelled watch range
This story first appeared in Prestige Malaysia
What makes a timepiece
iconic? Not many designs
can boast this accolade,
but Cartier wrist watches
– are easily worthy
of this title. Firstly, it
resonates with the women it was created for – from
Princess Orlov of Russia’s diamond-encrusted dial
in 1912 to the Duchess of Cambridge’s. Secondly
as a specialist in exquisite reinterpretations of classic
designs, Cartier is turning back the hands of time on
the revamped Baignoire collection and Panthère de
Cartier. With the resurrection, Cartier reminds us
that timepieces can be as intriguing, impressive and
elusive as jewels.
Expressions Of The Time
The Panthère de Cartier was first introduced during
the heyday of ‘80s opulence, in 1983 at the ferocious
speed of a real panther and became highly sought
after amongst the crème de la crème of society.
Aesthetically, the Panthère de Cartier is a true style
icon for women who wish to never to go unnoticed.
A watch and also a piece of jewellery, the Panthère
de Cartier timepiece is one of the most distinctive
Cartier designs.
An ever-evolving idea, Cartier is reactivating the
creative theme and founding energy of this iconic
and radiant design with two new interpretations,
the manchette watch and the mini watch. Cartier
accentuates the flowing, silky bracelet in the
manchette watch. While the exaggerated
jewels spread to gain the upper hand, the dial
of the original watch is off-centred.
A partly open-worked chain reveals a
glimpse of the skin and lightens the material
to create a casual yet stylish piece. Truly
imbued with the essence of the Panthère
de Cartier watch, in the mini watch, the
stylistic exercise concentrates on proportion.
This delicate jewel lends itself to pairings or
accumulations of several bracelets. A replica
of the original model, it takes its forms to new
heights of elegance. Faithful to the aesthetic
of the original model, this iconic piece is as
glamorous as ever, yet resolutely modern in its
design. These two faces of the timeless watch
express the indelible symbol’s ever freer,
more daring and triumphant elegance that
pushes to its very extremes through jewellery,
a celebratory, hedonistic and ultra-feminine
spirit.
A Lasting Legacy
Cartier has been creating wrist watches since
1904 and has carved a name for itself as a
daring and innovative brand that doesn’t
shy away from shapes. Transforming objects
and embracing beauty are key elements
of Cartier’s stylistic vocabulary and this
combined approach resulted in the birth of
Baignoire Allongée with diamonds set dial
the Baignoire watch. Streamlined, authentic
and sophisticated, it combines the very best
of Cartier designs.
The 1912 design of the watch that
would later be christened the Baignoire
demonstrated Cartier’s prowess in crafting
watchmaking forms when Louis Cartier
took the traditional round watch shape
and stretched it out. His stylistic research
culminated in two straight parallel lines
closed by two curves, which formed the shape
of a baignoire – bathtub in French. Paying
homage to the cult 1958 model, its design
remains unchanged, yet the piece itself has
evolved to offer a narrower bracelet and
redesigned Roman numerals on a silvered
sand-blasted background.
Like a fixation, the Baignoire watch
brings forth new desires, such as the yearning
to give its exuberant elegance texture and
relief in the Baignoire Allongée, an oversized
watch that stretched along women’s wrists,
combining excessive chic with supreme
simplicity. With a unique ability to twist a
classic and still keep the distinctly elegant
vibe that has characterised the French
maison since its founding in 1847, today,
the Baignoire watch asserts its own eternal
essence. An elegant ellipse uniquely forged
in a single line, the Baignoire watch is the
essence of Cartier. For women who have
their sights set high, who forsake trends and
fashions but opt for a timeless French chic –
it’s the signature piece.
THE BEAUTY
OWAY is the
Way to Go
The new multi-sensorial hair and scalp treatments at Number76 may
just ease your hair and scalp concerns far, far “oway”
This story first appeared in Augustmen Malaysia | Photo by Number76
Earlier this year, I accidentally found myself
caught between a rock and a hard place in
signing up for a complete hair treatment
program that would set me back for more
than RM5,000; and by “accidentally”, I
meant “I had enough rewards points to
redeem a free two-hour scalp treatment so I did, not knowing
one hour of that included sitting through a persistent sale pitch
by the hair consultant to get me to sign up for the package to
meet her KPI.”
Needless to say, it was an unfruitful session for both
myself and the consultant; I was just as persistent in saying
no, but had to fork out close to RM700 anyway just to get
her to shut up and let me leave, which I am still paying by
instalment six months after, long after the session’s treatment
has lost its effects.
That being said, I did take away something from the
consultation session: besides the fact that nothing in the
world is free, and, perhaps not as serious and urgent as the
consultant puts it, the hair does need certain treatment and
care that goes beyond washing and conditioning the hair with
the right shampoo. (The facility I went to was for the more
serious hair and scalp cases that may be unsalvageable).
So, it was perfect timing when Number76 launched its
curated hair and scalp treatments using OWAY products:
treatments that not only help with a healthier regrowth of the
hair catered to the type of hair, but more importantly, one that
relaxes the sense without a “consultant” breathing down your
neck to sign a RM5,000 package.
OWAY (or Organic Way) began its journey in 1948,
when it established itself in producing quality cosmetics, using
biodynamic, zero-mile, organic and fair trade ingredients.
Today, the Bologna-based company is renowned in over 70
countries, the latest being Malaysia itself, when the Tokyobased
hair salon Number76 introduced a couple of OWAY’s
treatments, a head spa concept that encourages an aromatic
ambiance bursting with natural and holistic wellbeing, amidst
the traditional hair salon with quick turnovers, as customers
sit back and enjoy purifying and restorative hair treatments.
OWAY Multi-sensory Head Spa
The OWAY Head Spa is a curated head spa program that
regenerates the mind and revitalises the scalp and hair in
three steps. A Number76 hair specialist attends and begins the
two-hour long session with a quick consultation, who will then
advise on the treatment most suitable with the hair and scalp
concern at hand: an ultra-delicate soothing treatment for
red and sensitive scalp; a purifying and regulating treatment
for the oily or dry dandruff scaling scalp; a detoxifying and
restorative treatment for the oily scalp; or a micro-stimulating
treatment for thinning hair.
The session will begin with an OWAY Herbs and Clay
Peeling Cleanser prelude, dedicated to individuals with intense
daily lifestyle, and which could be experienced through a
separate 90-minute session on its own.
Customers are advised to put away their mobile devices as
the specialist starts with a simple Ayurveda neck and shoulder
massage to regenerate an experience that frees one from
stress and toxins. Vitality to the hair and scalp is then restored
occasional use of heating instruments, the hair has gone dull,
rough, porous and lacks elasticity; it requires action beyond
just nourishing the surface of the hair.
The other OWAY hair treatment is a customised
program in restoring vitality of damaged tresses with the
intensive regenerative treatment, a method to reconstruct
damaged hair resulting from repeated chemical treatments,
thermal instruments, mechanical stresses or environmental
aggressions. The rebuilding method offers eight benefits to fix
damaged hair: shine, elasticity, hydration, remineralisation,
ody and structure, cuticle repair, strength and resistance
to breakage. The treatment begins with a diagnosis of the
scalp by means of video technology Tricho-analyser with
an adjustable magnification of up to 200x, displayed upon a
high-resolution LCD monitor for a more accurate customised
treatment for the client.
The session is followed by an intensive treatment with a
rebuilding serum, a protein fluid base which contains a mix
with concentrates of hyalo minerals and/or ceramides F for
its repairing purposes and moisturising properties in restoring
the hair lipid components, and increasing structure, elasticity,
and resistance. Depending on the personal diagnosis, the
volume of the contents within the serum mixture is applied to
the hair with a brush, hand-massaged in upwards movements
for better absorption, and left for 10 minutes for the serum
to repair the keratin chains inside the hair fibre, and supply
amino acids to the cuticle and cortex.
Next, the infrared hair remedy comes into play. At this
phase, the innovative ultrasound and infrared iron are used
to treat the damaged hair tissue: the ultrasounds and heat
produced by the electromagnetic vibrations of the harmless
infrared rays are exceptional in carrying agents that optimise
any treatment.
The 90-minute OWAY hair rebuilding treatment
concludes with a rebuilding hair bath and rebuilding hair
mask to preserve moisture and softness.
A Bespoke
Scent
Considered to be one of France’s most respected perfumeries, you can now
explore the luxurious fragrance collection of Henry Jacques here in KL.
This story first appeared in Prestige Malaysia
Nothing is more evocative of time and
place than scent. Our sense of smell is
one of the most powerful we have —
the merest hint of something familiar
can trigger a cherished recollection or
wonderful moment in our lives. Scent is
a very personal thing and often we don’t always give enough
attention to the business of choosing and buying one. For
that reason, the perfume we opt for is an incredibly personal
accessory that often becomes one’s signature.
With its rich history as the bespoke perfume brand
to royalty and high society, one of France’s most respected
perfumeries Henry Jacques recently opened its doors at
Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, promising to bring with it nearly half
a century of excellence and creativity in serving the world’s
greatest.
Born on the outskirts of Grasse in 1975, Henry Jacques
breathes the very essence of founder Henry Cremona.
Steeped in the family’s culture, from his encounter with one
of the last great noses of the old French perfume tradition,
Henry Jacques embodies nearly half a century of excellence
and creativity and under the charm of the rich artistic
sphere surrounding the family, the number of creations each
uniquely made upon request kept growing with each passing
year. It all began from a world traveller who drew on his
childhood, wanderlust and dreams of faraway lands to feed
his inexhaustible passion for perfumery perfection.
For centuries, kings and queens have revelled in the
sumptuousness of courts perfumed in the most precious of
essences. A personal perfume collection was no less important
to a refined society than an elegant wardrobe. Composed
of only premium natural essences from all over the world,
rigorously selected and at once brought to the crafting atelier,
the practice is the pride of Henry Jacques. The noblest blend
of natural absolutes and perfumed oil nectars are then housed
in intricately designed crystal flacons or exquisite customised
jewel-toned flasks. Everything is made in-house, from perfume
where no traces of alcohol are used to the bottles, marrying
olfactory finesse and artistic beauty.
Precious Creations
It takes a creative genius to be able to dream up a timeless
perfume that speaks of beauty, complexity, and delicacy
hence the Les Classiques collection. This collection of 50
unique fragrances, is diverse in the portrayal of the Henry
Jacques legacy in its entirety. A universal appeal seems to
have been written into the formulas as each nectar enhances
the personality of the person wearing it. The nuances of
the collection are beautifully set off by the sleek lines of the
specially designed crystal bottle. Each Les Classiques, available
in 15ml and 30ml, is presented in a case that expresses the
same philosophy of sheer refinement that is free from fad and
ostentation. Embellished with gold leaf, the varnished wooden
case opens up to reveal the bottle delicately resting on a silk
cushion that befits the prestige of royalty.
Bold And Beautiful
Henry Jacques exclusive offerings of noteworthy scents
continues with its elegant Les Toupies, composed of Mr. H
and Mrs. Y. As part of its rare collection of Masterpieces, they
are the first couple fragrance in the collection, each containing
its own unique and exclusive fragrance. Symmetrical but
with no central point and yet stable to hold these precious
scents, the multifaceted crystal bottles are an extraordinary
creation of French craftsmanship, a result of over three years
in development. With the silhouette of a great fresco, Les
Toupies is a portrayal of a couple deep in love, turning to the
rhythm of an endless waltz.
A Noble Blend
Creating your own bespoke perfume is a delicate and refined
process. The adventure begins with a consultation usually
held in one of the boutiques. Decades of experience and
a fine sensitivity to listening shaped each dialogue with a
clientele, fundamental to the creative process. A symbol of
identity, each exclusive fragrance will be safeguarded in its
precious library. A brand that has been very private in its retail
presence, the bespoke service amongst other collections will
be offered at the newly debuted Henry Jacques boutique in
Perfume embodies the most precious and intimate of
adornments. The art of applying perfume to one’s skin is
an elegant gesture that has been forgotten far too long. With
the wide choice of fragrances and bespoke services offered
by Henry Jacques fragrances, embarking on this journey will
yield the most beautiful expression of your personality. A lost
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Stay
Energised
See a big difference in how well rested you feel by making these easy
can significantly boost energy levels.
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
Avoiding the morning madness is key to
staying energised throughout the day.
Rest is incredibly important
to staying energised and
productive through the day, but
we often don’t get enough due to
our hectic schedules. Often we
feel drained during the middle
of the day and while having that third or fourth cup
of java may seem like the best solution, here are some
simple steps you can do at work or at home to keep
you pumped all day.
Avoid The Snooze Button
The short bursts of sleep you get in between grappling
with the snooze button fragments your REM sleep—
the most restorative period. This disrupts your body
clock so you feel drowsy during the day and have a
hard time nodding off at night, resulting in a cycle of
sleepiness.
If you’re not ready to bound out of bed, hit the
snooze button just once and use those few minutes to
wake yourself up slowly with a few gentle stretches.
Another solution is to move your alarm clock. Place
it so you have to get out of bed (and even walk across
the room) to turn off the alarm. And once you’re up,
don’t lie down again. Write a note and leave it by your
alarm reminding yourself to stay up.
Have Your Morning Coffee Later
It can be hard to do but try delaying your coffee ritual
for about 1½ to 2 hours after you wake up. If you start
any earlier, it might actually weaken the caffeine’s
effect. That can linked to cortisol—you may know it
as the stress hormone, but it’s also a natural stimulant.
Cortisol levels are highest in the early morning, so
if you consume caffeine when you don’t need it as
much, your body may end up producing less cortisol
and attempting to lean more on the java to make up
the difference.
Wake Up With More Energy
Avoiding the morning madness is key to staying
energised throughout the day. If you wake up in a
panicked state, you use up a hormone called cortisol,
which is released throughout the day to help give
you energy. This means you’ll have less to keep you
energised for the rest of the day and should consider
a smarter and softer wake up call. Some alarm clocks
use soft sounds or music so you’re not awaken in a
frenzy.
Jot Your To-Dos In the Afternoon
Avoid writing down your to-do list before sleeping at
night as it will send your mind racing when it really
should be powering down. Instead, allocate 10 or 15
minutes after your midday meal to make a list of what
you need to get done, write out any concerns and
create action plans. This will allow you to have better
quality sleep (thanks to fewer nighttime worries), so
you can feel more alert during the day.
Set A Sleep-Time Alarm.
It is important to stick to a schedule when it comes
to your sleeping time. Turn in at the same time every
night, wind down an hour beforehand, and wake up
within an hour of the same time every day - even on
weekends. Set your alarm to ring about 30 minutes
before you plan to sleep to give yourself time to start
winding down, turning off your electronics and getting
ready for bed. This will help get your biological clock
in sync.
75 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019 | TM
HEALTH & WELLNESS
Allocate some time after your midday meal to make a list
of what you need to get done.
For night time, munch on peanut butter on toast with a
sprinkle of cinnamon instead of cookies.
Deep Breathing Exercises
Clear your mind by meditating for 5 to 10 minutes to help you
get to a restful place. Inhale and exhale slowly through your
nostrils, then focus on different parts of your body from head
to toe, becoming aware of tension and releasing it.
Snack on veggies and protein to give
you a mood lift.
Do Simple Fitness Activities
You might assume that working out on low energy will further
drain your batteries, but the opposite is true: Research has
found that a single, moderate-intensity session (such as a
20-minute bike ride or a brisk walk) can significantly boost
energy levels in about 90% of people. What’s more, the effect
is usually immediate and lasts at least an hour. But this isn’t the
time to overdo it - longer or more intense workouts can leave
you feeling exhausted, so keep it short and simple.
Eat Energy Boosting Food
Here is an easy snack menu to follow:
BREAKFAST: Use yogurt instead of milk in whole-grain
cereal. Top your bowl with fiber-filled berries, which also help
deliver sustained energy.
AFTERNOON: Highly processed snack foods cause blood
sugar to spike, then crash, leaving you more sluggish. Veggies
and protein give you a lift minus the drop.
NIGHT: Try peanut butter on toast with a sprinkle of
cinnamon instead of cookies. Opt for carbohydrates and
protein, not saturated fat and sugar, which are linked to more
disturbed sleep.
THE VACATION
A Regal Stay
Check in to Tokyo’s renowned Palace Hotel Tokyo
for a stopover you’ll never forget
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
Known for its amalgamation
of ancient traditions and
culture juxtaposed with
modernity and technology,
Japan’s old and new
elements coexist in
harmony, drawing in crowds of visitors every
year. The business district of Marunouchi
in Tokyo is no different, as sleek office
skyscrapers tower over the scenic stone moats
and lush greenery of the Imperial Palace East
Gardens.
Embodying this vast contrast of old and
new is the Palace Hotel Tokyo, which sits
comfortably in the heart of the Marunouchi
district next to the Imperial Palace, its moatside
setting cleverly ensconced away from
the hustle of the city. A classic hotel with
impeccable service and magnificent views
right over the Imperial Palace.
The Palace’s modern façade belies its
deep-rooted history, as the building is an
iconic fixture in the luxury hotel scene ever
since it made its official debut to the public in
1961. After a three-year facelift in 2009, the
Palace Hotel Tokyo emerged as a new luxury
hotel icon in 2012, revered for its practice of
omotenashi (Japanese hospitality).
Today, the hotel’s historic roots remains
deeply entrenched throughout the building
such as the 1.6 million Shigaraki tiles which
originally shielded its outer walls have been
repurposed. Relics from the hotel’s longstanding
history that have survived the
modern times include a restored bar counter
from the original Royal Bar which served as a
hidden alcove for gentlemen accompanied by
the finest cigars and top-shelf liquors.
Though the business district of
Marunouchi may boast a more serious façade
housing numerous top corporations, the
area turns into a peaceful sanctuary come
It’s a known fact that the rooms at
the Palace boast one of the largest in the
with plenty of natural sunlight streaming in
through the windows. The rooms are also
well equipped with tech amenities to cater to
the modern traveller as you will find an array
of international power sockets, DVD/CD
players and LCD television. A well-stocked
mini bar complete with Nespresso capsules to
power through early mornings come in handy.
Quintessential Japanese details showcasing
the highest level of craftsmanship can be
plush bath linens made in Imabari, Nambutekki
cast iron teapots and Jugetsudo teas by
Maruyama Nori.
But the Palace does not benchmark
against the conventional five-star hotel
immaculate service is enough to get through
with flying colours. The wholly-Japaneseowned-and-managed
hotel is imbued with
the spirit of omotenashi, a distinctive art that
truly distinguishes Japanese hospitality from
the rest of the world. The mere act of offering
THE VACATION
in return stems from a deep-rooted culture
that is practised on a daily basis.
As the city awarded with the most
Michelin stars, dining out in Tokyo is a
rewarding gastronomic experience that will
require a reservation in advance on your
part. It is a known fact that the services of a
venerable and well-connected hotel concierge
will ease the load. Ahead of your stay at the
Palace, you can email the hotel concierge to
secure a reservation at a restaurant of your
choice.
However, there are days when dining out
may prove to be too much of a hassle. Wander
down the halls of the Palace to Wadakura on
a cold winter night, while you warm up to
a sip of sake and a full-blown kaiseki meal.
Fresh seasonal produce of local vegetables,
fish and pickles are presented beautifully with
origami artwork and dusted with a layer of
gold flakes. Other Japanese favourites served
at the hotel include teppanyaki at GO, crispy
golden battered tempura at Tatsumi and topflight
sushi at Sushi Kanesaka. Revel in the
serene, glittering nightscape at the Lounge
Bar Privé post dinner with a glass of bubbly
in hand or if you’re in the mood for jazz
music, the Palace Lounge offers a cosy haven
to people-watch.
A day’s worth of excursions at
neighbouring districts Ginza and
Omotesando warrants a session at the
1,200sqm space that houses the Evian Spa
Tokyo. French savoir-faire and Asian therapy
treatments are offered here and it is not long
before you will find yourself dozing off in the
midst of a vitalising signature treatment.
But if there’s one thing you’re not
leaving without, it’s the Palace’s selection of
sweets and pastries which will be worth the
journey home.
Island Spirit
Mauritius, the best African destination you must visit this year
Text and photos: Shah Shamshiri
Located in the middle of the turquoise
Indian Ocean, this tropical island
2,000 miles off the southeast coast of
Africa is indeed a model African travel
destination. Long deemed as one of the
best options for romantic getaways, the
pint-sized nation of Mauritius (also known as Maurice in
French), has so much to offer!
Situated about 2,000 kilometers off the southeast
coast of the African continent, this Indian Ocean jewel
is a melting pot of cultures, thanks to its very colourful
history. The once uninhabited island is now home to a
population made up of people from nearby regions of
India, Africa, China as well as the more distant corners
of Europe. And with such an eclectic mix, it is no surprise
that Mauritius continues to enthrall visitors from all over
the world.
Your Holiday Begins Here
For a quick preview of the people and the cuisine, start
at Port Louis, the biggest city and also the capital of the
island. Located on the Northwest Coast of the island, it
boasts a plethora of sights and sounds which visitors can
witness most prominently at the central market place.
The market sells a variety of things such as fresh food
items, local dishes, as well as handcrafted handcrafted
souvenirs for family and friends.
Like most markets around the world, buyers must
be ready to bargain for every potential purchase. The
market is also one of the best spots for local street food.
With a huge portion of the island’s population originating
from India, the more popular street delicacies are also
very similar to those found in India. Among them are
Dholl Puri (a type of pea flour pancake) as well as the
Roti (a flatbread made with regular wheat flour) that has
delicious (usually vegetarian) fillings and complimented
with chilli sauce.
After checking out the market, take a stroll down the
famous Port Louis waterfront where shops and boutiques
become a favourite haunt for the trendy Mauritian
youngsters. The waterfront is also home to the popular
‘Umbrella Walk’ where a string of umbrellas in different
colours are hung as decorations and shades along the
interior area of the waterfront.
THE VACATION
Another attraction that must not be missed is the muchtalked
about “Seven Coloured Earth” dunes at the Chamarel.
The dunes which can reach up to 15 metres thick, contain
traces of ancient activity of geo-climatic events. The iron
and aluminium oxides left by these events repel each other
and gather spontaneously in colourful stripes. This makes the
Seven Coloured Earth dunes a truly unique natural wonder
that can only be found in Mauritius and is a must-visit for
everyone to believe.
From the Chamarel, make sure to pay a visit to the
animals at the Casela World of Adventures located on the
same western part of the island. It is one of the few places
where visitors can have interactions with lions and indulge in
a safari tour. The Casela is also home to 1,500 birds, giant
tortoises, Bengal tigers, cheetahs, lions and many other
species. There is also an area where children can partake in
feeding certain animals such as giraffes and giant tortoises.
To get a clear bird’s-eye view of Port Louis, head up to
Fort Adelaide (Citadel of Port Louis). It is located on a hill
overlooking the city and harbour, and was built between 1834
to 1840 to guard the city against riots during the abolition of
slavery. Now it is a famous venue for international concerts
and performances. From the citadel, visitors can witness the
many quarters of Port Louis and breathtaking vistas of some
other parts of Mauritius which must not be missed.
One of the well-known spots would be the famous
botanical garden of Pamplemousses, to enjoy some seriously
beautiful greenery. Still within the vicinity of Port Louis,
the Mauritius National Botanical garden is populated with
a variety of plants including the famous Giant Water Lilies.
The area is quite big thus making it a suitable place to have
long walks and take gorgeous pictures.
To learn a bit more about the history of Mauritius,
head down to the country’s interactive sugar museum
known as L’Aventure du Sucre which is not very far from
the Pamplemousses Botanical Park. It is truly an interesting
experience as many outsiders are not in the know that sugar
was one of the main the reasons why Mauritius has become the
multi-cultural society it is today.
The Azure Waters
Naturally, a visit to Mauritius would not be complete without
stepping into the azure waters of the surrounding ocean and
that is what most visitors look forward to. Apart from the usual
snorkelling and diving exercises, be sure to take part in one of
the ‘must-do’ activities in Mauritius which is swimming with
the dolphins! There are several tour companies that provide
this service for tourists and can easily be found online. It is
safe and truly marvellous when guests get to swim up-close
with wild dolphins who venture closer to the ocean shores in
the mornings.
For more fun with nature, try a catamaran ride to the
world famous islet of Ile Aux Cerfs, where everyone can just
spend the day doing literally nothing and enjoy the calm
surroundings of this little island by having a nice siesta or even
a picnic after a short swim.
Clearly, Mauritius has so much to offer for the uninitiated
and these are just some of the interesting things you can do
while you’re there. So if you have the time to spare and are in
search of some island excitement away from your usual south
east Asian spots, give a Mauritius a shot. We assure you, the
magic won’t go away!
Natural fermented moose heart
Magnus Ek and Agneta Green
Stockholm offers the culinary connoisseur a
surprising variety of traditional and modern
cuisine. Expect delectable interpretations of the
region’s freshest ingredients while seafood being
a special delicacy in this Nordic capital where its
impossible to ignore the fruits of the Baltic Sea.
Stockholm – one of the world leaders in Nordic cuisine,
has a number of Michelin-starred restaurants, and Bib
Gourmands (for excellent affordable eating), and a host of
local Swedish classics attracting international headlines and
food lovers.
The city is simmering as a harvest field and playground
for talented chefs and attracting food lovers to try fresh
seasonal plates brimming with rich flavours and served with
a contemporary and experimental flair. Bolstered by a fertile
Nordic hinterland that gives everything from the sweetest
vegetables to the freshest seafood and poultry, Stockholm is
now positioning itself as the “Capital of Scandinavia” with
local chefs championing locavore and sustainability not
only through dishes that tantalise the tastebuds, but also its
community of craftsmen and small producers. And it is not
white-linen and stiff-suited settings that distinguish these gems;
it is the passion for preserving the land’s geography, history
and culture that warms the heart as much as the stomach.
Oaxen Krog
For many years Oaxen Krog – one of the top 50 restaurants
in the world, according to Restaurant magazine – and its
sister restaurant, Slip, were located on the remote island of
Oaxen, an hour outside Stockholm. The founders, Magnus
Ek and Agneta Green, have now moved them to a much
more accessible waterfront location in the city at the new
Djurgården shipyard marina. Sustainability, history and
craftsmanship have been the two-Michelin starred Oaxen’s
ethos since Magnus and Agneta first opened the restaurant in
1994. The restaurant emphasises Nordic cuisine using locallysourced
and seasonal flavours. Raw ingredients are prepared
in a modern way, while old and traditional techniques are the
foundation of the restaurant’s approach.
Diners can dig into its 16-course degustation menu
paired with excellent European old world wines and served
on handcrafted wooden crockery made by Chef Magnus,
from dainty spoons made from elder wood roasted in the oven
to organic-shaped bowls hollowed out from tree branches.
The beautifully presented dishes resonate with nature and the
seasons while offering a real depth of flavour.
Besides working with producers from all over
Scandinavia, Magnus and Agneta have their own vegetable
plot, which yielded about 30 different crops last year including
mustard sprouts, Jerusalem artichoke, green and black kale,
THE DINING
and carrots (“The crooked ones usually outdo the straight
ones when it comes to taste,” says Magnus.)
Quality, taste, sustainable agriculture and humanelyraised
animals are important to the couple, resulting in
nuanced flavours in dishes such as hay-baked beetroot with
leek, cream of lovage and celeriac; scallop with fermented
pear, gooseberry, horseradish and green juniper; and a thinly
sliced strips of beef from a retired dairy cow basking in a
broth of Alkvettern ham that was matured for three years.
Next door is casual bistro Oaxen Slip, with sharing plates
bursting with the same natural goodness, and the best place to
enjoy a relaxing Sunday brunch with a house-made Swedish
grog infused with ingredients such as sea buckthorn, lemon,
ginger and burnt honey cola.
Ekstedt
Well-known chef Niklas Ekstedt has created a kitchen in
which food is prepared using the original methods over an
open flame with his restaurant, Ekstedt. After stints at famed
restaurants El Bulli in Spain and The Fat Duck in the United
Kingdom, Niklas decided to go back to his forest roots. An
epiphanic moment cooking over an open flame at his family’s
summer cottage led him to open Ekstedt in November 2011,
which harkens back to the days of traditional wood-fired
techniques and natural smoky flavours. In place of electric
griddles and gas ovens are cast iron pots and pans over open
flames in this one-Michelin-starred dining room, which is
decked out with dangling bulbs, steel and copper panels, and
chefs fire up a storm in blacksmith-style leather aprons. By
burning a variety of different Scandinavian wood as fuel,
Ekstedt achieves different flavours and nuances in the food.
The superb quality and artisanal excellence are familiar
from Ekstedt’s other restaurants, along with awareness of
the sources of the ingredients and elements of Scandinavian
cuisine. The ambiance is warm, welcoming, and rustic,
expressed in natural materials. Ekstedt only has dinner service
and you can enjoy a “small” menu that includes dried deer
in the form of a crispy floss with smooth charcoal cream; an
oyster roasted in beef fat dripping from a flaming conical
funnel; a juniper-smoked pike in rich fish bone broth; and a
hay-flamed beef with kohlrabi (German turnip). Round off the
smouldering meal with a dessert of salted apple and caramel
with an “ice cream” of cream cheese flavoured with baked
apple. Its full menu includes the full works of fiery methods,
such as blackened langoustine and birch-flamed greens.
THE DINING
Sushi Sho
You can easily miss this nondescript sushi bar located in the
mostly residential neighbourhood of Vasastan where its pared
down interiors belie its one-Michelin star status that has been
held since 2016. This intimate Tokyo-inspired sushi bar has
made a huge impact on Stockholm’s food scene since opening
its doors five years ago. Chef Carl Ishizaki and his team serve
an omakase menu of small dishes, and Edomae-style sushi,
where fresh raw fish and cooked rice seasoned with vinegar
are combined together with a dash of wasabi, and placed in
your hands straight away. Each meal sitting is two hours with
twelves seats at the L-shaped bar and four at a sofa next to
the bar’s shorter end. Here, customers are offered the chance
to experience 15 of his signature dishes in one sitting via a
seasonal tasting menu, scribbled up on a giant chalkboard.
The interior is made up of floor-to-ceiling white square tiles
and perfectly sanded wooden benches, and the atmosphere is
relaxed and friendly.
No prizes for guessing the best seats in the house for
front-row action. Sushi Sho recreates a wholly authentic
experience with mostly Nordic produce. The freshness of
the ingredients shines through in every course, such as squid
caught off the Swedish west coast, French abalone, Greek sea
bass, and Norwegian monkfish liver cured in soy and citrus.
The signature dish is an egg yolk cured in soy for five to six
hours, and served in a bowl with sliced okra, toasted rice,
scallions and cubes of raw Spanish tuna. Mix them together
for a satisfying umami punch with crunch.
Restaurang AG
Despite its seemingly anonymous exterior Restaurang AG
is widely acknowledged as one of the best restaurants in
Stockholm, catering to the city’s many steak lovers. Step
into a former silver factory (hence the chemical symbol AG
in the name) transformed into an industrially chic lair with
dry aged meat in refrigerated display by the entrance and
meat sculptures sprouting in random spaces between dining
tables. “We have the best porterhouse, clubsteak, entrecôte in
Sweden,” says executive chef and co-owner Johan Jureskog
proudly of his steaks, which include local cuts such as an
Östergötland sirloin that had been dry aged for two months
and a 45-day dry aged Angus entrecôte that has been grassand
herb-fed on a family farm in Bohuslän, alongside cuts
from Portugal, Scotland, the United States and Japan.
Working with partners that are mostly family farms that
are big on natural feed and ethical practices means a provision
of rich and full-bodied meat that are naturally tender. The
menu changes with the seasons, with offerings of lamb in
spring time and game meat in winter. “Out of 50 cuts, we
end up with maybe 10 on our list after tasting. Its origins are
important, and we dry age and tenderise the meat ourselves to
get the flavour and quality we want.”
Work up the appetite with a preprandial drink at the
bar followed by appetisers such as juicy wagyu sliders and
vendance roe (Sweden’s first food product to be granted
Protected Designation of Origin status by the European
Union) before the final trophy of a steak.
Cocktail lovers can rejoice
as Ozone Bar Manager
Oscar Mena of Ritz
Carlton Hong Kong
recently debuted his Five
Elements Cocktail Menu
amongst other time-honoured cocktails
already on offer.
“I have always been fascinated by
how each element has its own place in this
world, while interacting and complementing
each other,” says Oscar, the Mexican-born
mixology maestro. His five new creations are
named after the five most essential elements
of life – Metal, Wood, Water, Fire and Earth.
Each of them resembles the essence, colour
or even flavour of its represented element.
Water, for example, is decorated with
pearl-like yogurt bubbles in an oyster shell.
You will not only be reminded of the ocean
visually by its eye-catching blue hue, but also
by its savoury hint of umami bitters. Coconut
water is added to this vodka and sake-based
cocktail to strike a balance.
Metal cocktail
Made with a base of Alipus Mezcal that’s
aged in wooden barrels for a month before
being served, Wood promises to impress with
its smoky overtones. Stirred with dashes of
chocolate bitters and Fernet Hunter, a bitter
liqueur with aromas of lavender and citrus,
this powerful cocktail of amazing complexity
is Oscar’s personal favourite.
Reminiscing the earthy scent of the forest
after the rain in Oscar’s childhood memories,
Earth is another must-try item on the menu.
Shiitake mushroom-infused rum creates the
essence of Earth, while non-alcoholic spirit,
Seedlip Garden, and pandan syrup give floral
notes to Oscar’s very own garden housed in a
ceramic mug.
“I have always been fascinated by
how each element has its own place
in this world, while interacting and
complementing each other”
Beautifully presented in a metallic vessel,
gin-based Metal demonstrates a harmonic
symphony of flavours comprising the citrus
notes from fizzy kombucha and lemon juice,
and the delightful sweetness of Italicus and
umeshu. Featuring carrot, blood orange
and the pleasant fragrance of St~Germain
Elderflower, whisky-based Fire, spiced up
with Thai chili tincture, tastes and looks as
hot as its name suggests.
“If you taste the cocktails in the order of
Earth wraps up your flavourful journey like
The
Accidental
Engineer
James Dyson never thought he would go into the world of
engineering and technology but it’s a good thing he did
Dyson machines are sold in more than 75 countries.
It’s a name that evokes awe, esteem,
veneration, admiration, and often
associated with prestige, class, and
distinction. Its mere mention hints
at the very image of modernity,
state-of-the-art technology and
homes of the future. When one hears the
name Dyson, it is an assurance of quality
as well as efficiency. Looking at the Dyson
brand today, with its assemblage of high-tech
appliances, no one would have thought that
the founder of the company never formally
studied engineering.
In fact, James Dyson himself never
imagined that he would one day become an
engineer or inventor.
“At school I opted for arts, put off by all
the formulae in science. There was nothing
that combined the two like design engineering
does. I only stumbled on engineering by
accident and immediately decided what I
wanted to do – make things that work better.”
These are his exact words proudly
proclaimed on the James Dyson Foundation
website. If necessity is the mother of
invention, then James Dyson is the father of
innovation.
James Dyson has designed everything from vacuum cleaners to
high-speed watercraft.
107 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019 | TM
GAME CHANGER
More than 6,000 people are employed with the company
worldwide, a third of whom are engineers.
Where It All Started
Born in Cromer, Norfolk on 2 May 1947,
Dyson is the youngest of three children.
Getting his early education at Gresham’s
School, where his father taught, Dyson went
on to study art at the Byam Shaw School of
Art, and then the Royal College of Art. It was
here that he delved into industrial design, and
helped design the Mark 3 of the Sea Truck,
a landing craft manufactured by Rotork
Marine. He then reinvented the wheelbarrow
by replacing the wheel with a ball for better
maneuverability, and called it the Ballbarrow.
Continuing work related to water crafts,
Dyson also invented the Trolleyball to launch
boats, and the amphibious Wheelboat.
Sometime in 1978, Dyson was becoming
very frustrated with the vacuum cleaner
that he was using. Its dust bag had become
irreparably clogged and seemed to be losing
suction power. Inspired by a local sawmill that
used cyclone technology to separate sawdust
particles from the air, Dyson got to work on a
vacuum cleaner that operated the same way.
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
108
Groundbreaking Invention
Dyson’s crude first prototype basically
worked, and proved his theory, but it
would take five years, going through 5,127
prototypes, before the G-Force - the world’s
first bagless vacuum cleaner, was perfected
and ready for the public. It was launched in
Japan, as UK retailers were not ready for a
replacement to their profitable vacuum bag
replacement business. The G-Force was a
success and afforded Dyson enough money to
start his own manufacturing company.
As a company, the Dyson philosophy is
to always to find a better way to do things.
He faced much admonition and rebuke from
high price point of these products but it’s the
price he is willing to pay to ensure that his
vision is perfected. Dyson products were not
only meant to be game changers, but also life
savers at home and there was no way this was
going to be, just to say.
Dyson has committed to a £1.5bn investment
in future technology.
Perhaps this is what attracted top talents
and dedicated staff to work at Dyson. Over
the years, the Dyson company has gone from
being a one man show to employing more
than 12,000 personnel all over the world.
From the first research centre and factory
in Malmesbury, Wiltshire, Dyson now has
their second UK site in Hullavington, a
Technology Centre in Singapore, as well as
an Advanced Manufacturing Centre there,
and a Development Centre in Johor Bahru,
Malaysia.
GAME CHANGER
Dyson is a global technology company with engineering and testing operations in Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and the UK.
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
The fundamental belief at Dyson is to develop technology to solve a problem.
At The Forefront of Technology
In fact, the company has not just expanded
operations, but also product offerings as well.
From the bright pink G-Force vacuum James
Dyson first started selling in 1983, Dyson is
now known for their many vacuum models,
air purifiers, bladeless fans and heaters, hair
dryers and public restroom hand dryers. The
Dyson Air Multiplier, which works like a
stand fan but without rotating blades, remains
a prime example of how Dyson disrupted
conventional machines by developing and
applying his patented core technology onto
his inventions and new products.
It’s this disruptive technology that puts
Dyson at the forefront of modern appliances
and development, and his accolades are
not just limited to household products. The
company’s - and founder’s - most ambitious
project to date is the development of their
very own electric vehicle, with £200 million
being invested into this endeavour, currently
ongoing on their site at Hullavington, UK.
Of course, expect to pay a pretty penny
for it, but with a Dyson, you can be sure
to also expect it to be perfect, efficient and
revolutionary… and you’ll wonder how you
ever lived without it.
After decades of starting his company and countless inventions, James
Dyson is still very much passionate about the work that he does.
A Timeless
Masterpiece
Very rarely, there is a chance for collectors of luxury to obtain an item
that is truly at its apex. In the context of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, these
rare moments present themselves approximately once every ten years.
112
Be prepared to be stunned with
the ultimate craftsmanship
and perfection that is
synonymous with Rolls-
Royce. And when better to
do so than when celebrating
the success and global adoration that has
been lavished on one of the world’s most
luxurious motor cars during its life cycle.
It is in this vein that, as Ghost approaches
the end of its remarkable ten year tenure,
the marque offers to collectors an extremely
limited Zenith Collector’s Edition of Rolls-
Royce Ghost. The collection of just 50
Zeniths will celebrate the timeless elegance of
a nameplate that has become the cornerstone
of contemporary Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. In
true keeping with its name, the Ghost Zenith
Collection will feature the highest levels of
Bespoke ever seen on a Ghost Collection car.
A Luxury Icon
Ghost is a luxury icon that carries with it a
rich and extraordinary past. From the Silver
Ghost, the motor car that established the
moniker of ‘The Best Car in the World’ over
100 years ago, to 200EX, the experimental
car that introduced the concept of a
contemporary expression of this nameplate
at the Geneva Motor Show in 2009, Ghost
has offered patrons of the marque a modern,
lithe and driver-focused Rolls-Royce.
When production of Ghost began in
2009, patrons across the world were drawn
to its elegant lines and dynamic offering and
it quickly became, and remains to this day,
the most successful Rolls-Royce motor car
ever to be built, attracting a new group of
young entrepreneurs to the marque. Indeed,
the reduction in average age of a Rolls-Royce
customer to around 43 is in part testament to
Ghost’s global success.
113 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019 | TM
THE DRIVE
Torsten Müller-Ötvös, Chief
Executive Officer, Rolls-Royce Motor
Cars, commented, “The Ghost Zenith
Collection presents an entirely forwardlooking
study of the unique characteristics
that have seen Ghost ascend to the status
of the most progressive super-luxury saloon
ever conceived. This unique Collection
provides patrons of the marque with a
rare opportunity to own a motor car truly
evocative of our time. Ghost is the most
successful Rolls-Royce ever created and
the Zenith Collection marks an important
milestone in our modern history.”
When shown at Geneva in 2009, 200EX
introduced a concept that was both driver
and passenger focused. The Ghost Zenith
Collection draws many references from
200EX, with perhaps the most significant
being the inclusion of a commemorative
ingot, made from the original 200EX Spirit of
Ecstasy, melted down and set in to the centre
console of each of the 50 Zeniths. Engraved
with the three key design lines of Ghost, the
plaque details its significant origins. The
Collection’s own Spirit of Ecstasy and clock
are engraved with the name of this highly
anticipated collection.
Furthermore, 200EX is immortalised in
a complex engraving on the centre console of
Ghost Zenith. A blueprint inspired artwork
enlarged to a point of abstraction has been
divided into 50 distinct parts, allowing each
Ghost Zenith customer their own personal
and individual work of art, while at the same
time uniting the collection as a group homage
to Ghost.
One’s eye is naturally drawn to the
interior of the Collection’s doors, owing
to the illuminated door pockets. Ambient
light emits through perforated leather while
enhancing the architectural elegance of
Ghost’s interior. You will also encounter
a complex piece of marquetry, created by
the master craftsmen and women in the
marque’s legendary woodshop. Available in
either wood, Technical fibre or piano finished
veneer, the door marquetry transitions
from the driver’s suite to passenger suite,
emphasizing the dual nature to Ghost.
the Home of Rolls-Royce’s Leathershop too
have been perfecting their art. The rear seats
feature embroidery that takes its inspiration
from the seat details of the original 1907 Silver
Ghost. This embroidery elegantly transitions
from the rear to the front of the cabin, and in
the case of the Extended Wheelbase Zenith,
the headliner thrusts purposefully forward
into the poised silhouette of the Spirit of
Ecstasy. The seats themselves are accentuated
in a contrasting leather, accenting Ghost as
the ultimate four seat limousine.
Occupants of the Ghost Zenith
Standard Wheelbase will experience an
extraordinary phenomenon. The famed
starlight headliner is presented in a unique
Shooting Star configuration. Shooting stars
fire at random across the cabin roof, adding
an extraordinary sense of theatre. This
surprise and delight feature consists of over
1,340 individually mapped and hand-woven
fibre optic lights.
Reminiscent of its Phantom counterpart,
The Ghost Zenith Collection’s exterior
styling takes on a new interpretation of its
own – a special two-tone application with
a gloss-contrast paint finish. Patrons may
select three different colour-ways, Iguazu
Blue with Andalusian White, Premiere Silver
with Arctic White or a daring Bohemian Red
with Black Diamond, with multiple variants
available highlighting the flexibility of the
model. The Silver Satin bonnet was first seen
on 200EX.
These extraordinary motor cars, which
represent the final opportunity to acquire this
landmark, transformative luxury product,
are currently being hand-crafted at The
Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, West
Sussex, an establishment recognised as the
world’s premiere Global Centre of Luxury
Manufacturing Excellence.
THE DRIVE
For The Love
Of A Classic
Discover the dedicated craft in making one of
Aston Martin’s iconic sports cars
This story first appeared in Augustman magazine
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
It’s probably best known as James Bond’s car of choice
but Aston Martin has a rich history beyond the silver
screen. The iconic DB5 first driven by Agent 007
in Goldfinger is far from the only great car Aston
has produced during its more than a hundred years
in the business. And because of the spy movies, no
one would fault you in thinking that the champagne cooler
concealed under the centre armrest was a standard feature in
all Aston Martin vehicles.
Car enthusiasts around the world feel a strong passion
for this British marque and it remains strong, fuelled in
equal parts by 007’s vehicular exploits and the luxury
brand’s heritage. While the DB5 may be the most iconic
model in Aston Martin’s automotive stable thanks to James
Bond, its predecessor the DB4 was the one that cemented
the automaker’s motorsport legacy. Prior to the DB4’s
introduction, Aston Martin engineers were hard at work on
a GT variant that was meant to be unleashed on racetracks.
A prototype, badged as the DB4 GT and driven by British
race car driver Stirling Moss, won the Fordwater Trophy back
in 1960. It was just one of the many racing accomplishments
that Aston Martin had been racking up in that period, with
the most notable being its 24 Hours of Le Mans victory the
year before.
The DB4 GT was then the fastest road legal production
car. Just 75 examples were built between 1959 and 1963,
and many are still around in a testament to Aston Martin’s
exemplary engineering; one will fetch over £3 million on the
open market today. In late 2016, Aston Martin announced
that it was faithfully recreating the DB4 GT with the same
techniques used to build the original, which included
beating the aluminium body by hand and even using the
same component suppliers. But there are modern safety
accoutrements of course, including a roll cage, racing-grade
bucket seats and a fire extinguisher.
Dubbed the DB4 GT Continuation, each car requires
4,500 man hours to build and is a throwback to the days of
yore before electronic aids and slick tyres were introduced,
back when racing was more an art than a science. A 4.2-litre
straight-six sits at the front of the car, mated to a four-speed
manual gearbox. There are neither traction control nor antilock
braking systems here; the driver must count on his own
skills at the steering wheel to tame and unleash the behemoth
at appropriate moments. Aston Martin has built 25 of these
beauties – an ambitious undertaking considering that the car
is only made for the track, yet every single one of these £1.5
million beauties has already been spoken for. Incidentally,
two of them are bound for Singapore, for an order by a
local vintage car collector. Unfortunately, there is still no
champagne cooler.
THE DRIVE
Pure
Adrenaline
With a high-performance sports cars like Porsche, driving
it in icy cold conditions makes for a unique experience
This story first appeared in Prestige Malaysia
TM | SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019
118
In a freezing place about a thousand kilometres north
of Beijing, close to China’s borders with Russian
Siberia and Mongolia, there is a vast area of prairie
known as the Hulunbuir grasslands. For much of
the year it’s cold up here: average temperatures
dip below zero in late October and won’t return to
positive numbers until May.
It is here that Porsche China’s Snowforce customer
programme is set. Just as car and tyre companies do in
other cold corners of the world, such as Arctic Sweden and
Finland, the German manufacturer has leased a couple of
small lakes outside Yakeshi in Inner Mongolia, two tracts of
water that should remain reliably frozen until at least the end
of April. It’s on these icy surfaces that a variety of cars from
the Porsche range would be put to the test: mid-engine 718
Boxsters and Caymans, and rear-engine 911 Carreras, but
also a few all-wheel-drive Cayenne SUVs and even a large
Panamera saloon thrown in for comparison.
During the programme, drivers strapped in, and then,
with traction control fully engaged, motor slowly out on to the
ice in a convoy of Carreras for the first of the day’s exercises.
The instructors work the drivers hard, car after car after car,
and with a driver change after every three or four attempts at
each exercise.
Beginning with a couple of short slalom courses, traction
control now fully turned off and with drive mode set to Track,
where drivers learn how the Carrera’s rear- mounted engine
results in a propensity to oversteer (in other words, to turn
in far more sharply than intended), and how to counteract
that by counter-steering (in other words, with the wheel held
roughly at half a turn the opposite direction).
On Day Two, after a second morning in which the drivers
have alternated between 911s and 718s, the instructors are
hectoring less and even handing out the occasional plaudit.
The drivers are then sent out on to the longest and trickiest
course of all, a three-kilometre serpentine of ice and snow
containing a seemingly endless curve that they are supposed
to negotiate sideways, from start to finish.
Just as it should do, the programme ends with some lighthearted
fun. The drivers still haven’t driven the Cayenne,
so as a kind of finale they motor out to the far side of the
lakes and a course they’d never seen till now. They’d assumed
Porsche’s high and heavy SUV would be more than a handful
– but how wrong they were. In no time at all they’re cavorting
joyously on the slippery surface like a small colony of elephant
seals, the cars looking bizarre and ungainly on the ice, yet in
spite of their bulk proving easily, safely and even gracefully
controllable – and hugely, laughably enjoyable into the
bargain. Indeed, the big 4x4’s unexpected ice-driving abilities
come as a revelation – so that when the drivers were headed
back to the airport and was asked to name the high point of
the Snowforce programme, the answer is unequivocal. “The
Cayenne,” says everyone without hesitation. “Definitely the
Cayenne.”
123 SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER 2019 | TM
THE END
“
When you get these jobs that you have
been so brilliantly trained for, just
remember that your real job is that if you
are free, you need to free somebody else.
If you have some power, then your job is
to empower somebody else
“
- Toni Morrison, Novelist and Nobel Laureate
