À la fois dessin et autographe, ce joli petit croquis évoque avec poésie Ingres d’une
part, dont Raoul Dufy admirait beaucoup le dessin, et la musique d’autre part, qui fut
importante pour lui toute sa vie comme en témoignent ses nombreux tableaux à ce
sujet. Sa main est identifiée avec certitude dans le dessin du violon, la signature et
l’inscription le violon d’Ingres, moins sûrement dans la partition. Quant à la dédicace,
elle n’est pas de lui. Ce croquis rappelle incontestablement ses deux versions du Violon
rouge de 1949 et de 1966.
Artwork and autograph, this lovely little sketch poetically evokes Ingres, whose drawings
Raoul Dufy admired, and music, that was important for him throughout his life,
of which his numerous paintings of instruments provide evidence. His hand can be
identified with much certainty in the violin, the signature and the inscription le violon
d’Ingres, but with less certainty in the scores. As for the dedication, he positively did
not make it. This sketch obviously recall his two versions of Red Violin made in 1949
and 1966.
