) completion of all competencies at Level 2 as described in this document;
c) completion of Level 1 plus another six months (of which at least three of
those months must be at Level 2 [in training]) of appropriate field experience;
and
d) consistently demonstrate the competence and ability to pass quality
assurance checks.
2.1 Equipment Knowledge
A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate his or her ability to safely operate
and maintain:
a) all level 1 equipment;
b) a prism and/or relaskop;
c) a communication device; and
d) a scientific calculator.
2.2 Field Procedures
A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate the following:
a) all Level 1 requirements;
b) measure field distances, including the calculation of slope correction to obtain
horizontal distance;
c) determine the total corrected age of a tree;
d) determine tree length through measurement and/or estimation;
e) calculate plot radius factors for determining in and out trees;
f) establish fixed area plots;
g) estimate volume per hectare;
h) record accurate field notes including timber type, topography and tree
quality information; and
i) communicate clearly and effectively.
