) completion <strong>of</strong> all competencies at Level 2 as described in this document;<br />
c) completion <strong>of</strong> Level 1 plus another six months (<strong>of</strong> which at least three <strong>of</strong><br />
those months must be at Level 2 [in training]) <strong>of</strong> appropriate field experience;<br />
and<br />
d) consistently demonstrate the competence and ability to pass quality<br />
assurance checks.<br />
2.1 Equipment Knowledge<br />
A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate his or her ability to safely operate<br />
and maintain:<br />
a) all level 1 equipment;<br />
b) a prism and/or relaskop;<br />
c) a communication device; and<br />
d) a scientific calculator.<br />
2.2 Field Procedures<br />
A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate the following:<br />
a) all Level 1 requirements;<br />
b) measure field distances, including the calculation <strong>of</strong> slope correction to obtain<br />
horizontal distance;<br />
c) determine the total corrected age <strong>of</strong> a tree;<br />
d) determine tree length through measurement and/or estimation;<br />
e) calculate plot radius factors for determining in and out trees;<br />
f) establish fixed area plots;<br />
g) estimate volume per hectare;<br />
h) record accurate field notes including timber type, topography and tree<br />
quality information; and<br />
i) communicate clearly and effectively.<br />
