5. The application package must include: • Level 1 to 3 accreditation forms for an ATC or Levels 1 to 4 accreditation forms for an ATE; • detailed work history documentation; • special course and seminar attendance; and • other information as required by the board. 6. The board will only process complete applications. If an application is found to be incomplete, the Board will make a specific request to obtain the missing information. If the information is not obtained, the application will not be considered for review. 7. The board will review all submitted material, references, etc. and determine whether accreditation will be granted. There are provisions for an appeal if you are dissatisfied with the decision of the board. ABCFP Timber Cruiser’s Log 22
Accreditation Form Level 1: Compasser To be endorsed (signed-off) by an Accredited Timber Cruiser (ATC), an Accredited Timber Evaluator (ATE), a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or Registered Forest Technologist (RFT). 1.1 Equipment Knowledge A Compasser must be able to demonstrate the ability to safely operate and maintain: hand compass; diameter tape; increment borer; axe; and horizontal and vertical distance measuring devices. Competency endorsed by: Initial Member # Date 1.2 Field Procedures A Compasser is able to demonstrate the following: adjust declination settings, set directional bearings on a hand compass; navigate with minimum supervision; establish a plot centre and reference point; determine tree diameters at breast height; determine tree age at breast height & measure growth increment; assist in tree height measurements; communicate field information clearly; and conduct all tasks in a safe manner. Competency endorsed by: Initial Member # Date 1.3 Field Knowledge A Compasser is able to demonstrate the following: differentiate between magnetic, grid and true north and set a navigational course and bearing from a map; identify commercial tree species within the work area; identify basic pathological indicators for trees; identify common tree pests and other damage agents; recognize basic map related features including orientation (contours) and linear features (roads, trails, etc.); and be aware of appropriate job safety requirements.
