3.5 Office Knowledge<br />
An ATC must demonstrate an understanding <strong>of</strong>:<br />
a) all Level 2 requirements;<br />
b) sampling theory for variable radius plot cruising including co-efficient <strong>of</strong><br />
variation, standard deviation and sampling error objectives;<br />
c) the appropriate decay, waste and breakage factors for specific areas;<br />
d) <strong>log</strong> grade algorithm flowcharts at a basic level;<br />
e) cruise compilation output data including lumber recovery factors and total<br />
cull (DWB);<br />
f) a basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> how cruise data affects the appraisal system;<br />
g) area calculation techniques;<br />
h) the criteria and procedures for check cruising;<br />
i) limitations <strong>of</strong> forest inventory map label information; and<br />
j) timeline/efficiency requirements.<br />
Level 4 - Accedited Timer Evaluator<br />
Function<br />
An Accredited <strong>Timber</strong> Evaluator (ATE) is a senior working and/or supervisory level.<br />
It is at this level that practitioners will make field mensuration and timber cruising<br />
a significant and valuable part <strong>of</strong> their careers. At this level an ATE is pr<strong>of</strong>essionally<br />
accountable to organize and conduct an entire timber cruise and is responsible for<br />
training, supervising and auditing subordinates.<br />
Experience Requirements<br />
Completion <strong>of</strong> Level 4 requires 60 months <strong>of</strong> cumulative field and <strong>of</strong>fice experience.<br />
This includes three months at Level 1, six months at Level 2, 15 months at Level 3<br />
and then another 36 months <strong>of</strong> which at least 15 <strong>of</strong> those months must be at Level 4<br />
(in training) activity. This experience must be completed within 10 years <strong>of</strong> the start<br />
<strong>of</strong> their cumulative field and <strong>of</strong>fice experience. If an applicant cannot complete five<br />
years’ experience within 10 years, he or she must contact the board to review the<br />
reasons why it cannot be done and discuss other options.<br />
