h) clear and effective communication.<br />

2.5 Office Knowledge<br />

A Cruiser in Training must be aware <strong>of</strong>:<br />

a) the components <strong>of</strong> decay, waste and breakage factors;<br />

b) the principles <strong>of</strong> the cruise compilation system including cruise input data;<br />

c) area calculation techniques;<br />

d) base map origins including, Albers and UTM projections, NTS, <strong>BC</strong>GS, TRIM<br />

and other sources;<br />

e) basic forest cover map label information; and<br />

f) contractual obligations.<br />

Level 3 - Accredited <strong>Timber</strong> Cruiser<br />

Function<br />

An Accredited <strong>Timber</strong> Cruiser (ATC) is an operational working level and is an<br />

A<strong>BC</strong>FP member. At this level an ATC is capable <strong>of</strong> working with minimal or no<br />

supervision and is pr<strong>of</strong>essionally accountable for cruise data, and responsible for<br />

supervising and instructing subordinates.<br />

Experience Requirements<br />

Completion <strong>of</strong> Level 3 requires 24 months <strong>of</strong> cumulative field and <strong>of</strong>fice experience.<br />

This includes three months at level 1, six months at level 2 and then another 15<br />

months <strong>of</strong> which at least six <strong>of</strong> those months must be at Level 3 (in training) activity.<br />

This experience must be completed within four years <strong>of</strong> the start <strong>of</strong> the applicant’s<br />

cumulative field and <strong>of</strong>fice experience. If an applicant cannot complete two years’<br />

experience within four years, he or she must contact the board to review the reasons<br />

why it cannot be done and discuss other options.<br />

Experiential Learning<br />

All candidates for Level 3 accreditation are encouraged to enhance their skills<br />

through actively participating in cruising related training or workshops such as:<br />

a) variable plot cruising;<br />

b) basic statistics for forestry;<br />

c) call grade/net factoring;<br />
