2.3 Field Knowledge<br />

A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate the following:<br />

a) all Level 1 requirements;<br />

b) identify and record commercial tree genus/species found within the work<br />

area;<br />

c) identify and record common patho<strong>log</strong>y for trees, with distinctions made<br />

between biotic and abiotic sources <strong>of</strong> decay;<br />

d) identify and record tree classes with knowledge <strong>of</strong> the associated risk<br />

group classifications and their effects on percent decay calculations;<br />

e) identify and record common tree pests and other damage agents;<br />

f) recognize in the field common map and ortho-photo related features<br />

including forest cover attributes (species, age classes, etc.);<br />

g) recognize legal survey features;<br />

h) where applicable, be aware <strong>of</strong> GPS functions, limitations and their<br />

appropriate use;<br />

i) where applicable, be competent with Call Grade and Net Factoring<br />

standards; and<br />

j) be aware <strong>of</strong> the appropriate regulatory and job safety requirements (e.g.<br />

Worksafe <strong>BC</strong>).<br />

2.4 Office Procedures<br />

A Cruiser in Training must be able to demonstrate the following:<br />

a) all Level 1 requirements;<br />

b) assist with preparing a cruise plan map;<br />

c) pre-stratification <strong>of</strong> timber types;<br />

d) how to use the CV% (co-efficient <strong>of</strong> variation) <strong>of</strong> an area to determine the<br />

sampling intensity for a given sampling error objective;<br />

e) produce an adjusted cruise map including accurate placement <strong>of</strong> the cruise<br />

strip locations, tie-points and if applicable, confirm timber types;<br />

f) edit field data and prepare it for input to a cruise compilation program;<br />
