9. Describe the application review process.
When an application is received, it is checked for completeness by the registration
department and if complete, it is given to the board for review. If the board
determines that competencies, experience and references are adequate, the
registration department arranges for the applicant to take an invigilated technical
written exam (passing mark is 70%). A board member marks the exam and when the
applicant passes the exam he or she becomes accredited.
10. How long does it take to get accredited?
It depends upon the time of year in which application is made. The board usually
convenes three times a year. Your application will be compiled and presented at
the earliest board meeting. The process may take up to four months. This process is
currently being reviewed and may be accelerated if the number of new applicants
increases from the current level.
Be sure to go through the check list on the application form and provide all the
information required in your application package. An incomplete application will
delay the process. It is your responsibility to provide all requested information.
11. What happens when I get accredited?
After the board approves your accreditation, you will receive a letter of confirmation
and a certificate if you are not already a member.
12. What if my application for accreditation is not successful?
The board will provide you with reasons for its decision and may provide you with
other recommendations.
13. May I appeal a decision of the board?
If you are not satisfied with the decision of the board, you may appeal the decision.
The board will appoint a special reviewer(s) to reconsider your application.
14. For what period of time is my accreditation valid?
Accreditation is based on the understanding that a timber cruiser continues to
practise timber cruising and is able to competently perform work at the level of
accreditation granted.
Accreditation will automatically be renewed each year to members in good standing
upon payment of the annual membership fee and receipt of the annual selfassessment
declaration.
