Holy Baptism<br />

brought to the Church, at which time these parts <strong>of</strong> the foregoing<br />

service shall be used :<br />

The Gospel, the O!!estions (omitting the question Wilt thou be bap.<br />

tized in this Faith? and the answer thereto), the Declaration, We<br />

receive this Child ( Person), etc., and the remainder <strong>of</strong> the Office.<br />

CONDITIONAL BAPTISM.<br />

• If there be reasonable doubt whether any person was baptized with<br />

Water, In the Name <strong>of</strong> the Father, and <strong>of</strong> the Son, and <strong>of</strong> the Holy<br />

Ghost, (which arc essential parts <strong>of</strong> B.'ptism), such person may he<br />

baptized in the form before appointed in this Office; s.wing that, at<br />

the immersion or the pouring <strong>of</strong> water, the Minister shall use this<br />

form <strong>of</strong> words:<br />

IF thou art not already baptized, N., I baptize thee In the<br />

Name <strong>of</strong> the Father, and <strong>of</strong> the Son, and <strong>of</strong> the Holy<br />

Ghost. Amen.<br />

FIRST OFFICE.<br />

• "fter the singing <strong>of</strong> a IIymn, shall be s.lid by the "Iinister and Pea·<br />

pie together, all kneeling, the following <strong>Prayer</strong>, the Minister first<br />

pronouncing,<br />

The Lord be with you.<br />

Answer. And with thy spirit .<br />

Let us pray.<br />

RD <strong>of</strong> all power and might, Who art the author and<br />

giver <strong>of</strong> all good things; Graft in our hearts the love<br />

<strong>of</strong> thy Name, Increase in us true religion, Nourish<br />

us with all goodness, And <strong>of</strong> thy great mercy keep<br />

us in the same; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.<br />

• Then, the People being seared, the Minister shall ask them the O!!es.<br />

rions which follow, rhe People reading or repearing rhe Answers as<br />

appoinred.<br />

O!lcstion. What is your Christian Name?<br />

Answer. My Christian Name is<br />

O!lcstion. Who gave you this Name?<br />

Answer. My Sponsors gave me this Name in Baptism;<br />

wherein I was made a member <strong>of</strong> Christ, the child <strong>of</strong> God,<br />

and an inheritor <strong>of</strong> the kingdom <strong>of</strong> heaven.<br />

O!lestion. What did your Sponsors then promise for you?<br />

Answer. My Sponsors did promise and vow three<br />

things in my name: First, that I should renounce the devil<br />

and all his works, the pomps and vanity <strong>of</strong> this wicked<br />

world, and all the sinful lusts <strong>of</strong> the flesh; Secondly, that I<br />

should believe all the Articles <strong>of</strong> the Christian Faith; And<br />

Thirdly, that I should keep God's holy will and commandments,<br />

and walk in the same all the days <strong>of</strong> my life.<br />

O!lestion. Do you not think that you are bound so to<br />

do?<br />

Answer.<br />

Yes, verily; and by God's help so I will. And<br />
