Offices <strong>of</strong> Instruction<br />

That where so instructed, the People may repeat the Commandments,<br />

the Minister saying rhe response. And NOTE furrher, Thor rhe parr <strong>of</strong><br />

the Commandment which is inset may be omitted.<br />

I. Thou shalt have none other gods but me.<br />

Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this<br />

law.<br />

II. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor<br />

the likeness <strong>of</strong> any thing that is in heaven above, or in the<br />

earth beneath, or in the water under the earth; dlOU shalt<br />

not bow down to them, nor worship them;<br />

for I rhe LoRD thy God am a jealous God, and visir rhe sins<br />

<strong>of</strong> rhe farhers upon rhe children, unto the rhird and fourrh<br />

generarion <strong>of</strong> rhem thar hare me; and show mercy unto thou·<br />

S2nds in rhem rhar love me and keep my commandmenrs.<br />

Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep tbis<br />

law.<br />

III: Thou shalt not take the Name <strong>of</strong> dle LORD thy God<br />

mvam;<br />

for rhe LoRD will not hold him guiltlcss, rhat takerh his Name<br />

in vain.<br />

Lord, have 'mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this<br />

law.<br />

IV. Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath-day.<br />

Six days shalr rhou labour, and do all rhat thou hasr to do; bur<br />

the seventh day is rhe Sabbarh <strong>of</strong> rhe LORD thy God. [n ir<br />

thou shalt do no manner <strong>of</strong> work; rhou, and rhy son, and rhy<br />

daughrer, thy man·servanr, and thy maid·servanr, thy cattle,<br />

and rhe stranger thar is wirhin thy garcs. For in six days the<br />

LoRD made heaven and earrh, the sea, and all rhar in rhem is,<br />

and rested rhe seventh day: wherefore rhe LoRD blessed rhe<br />

seventh day, and hallowed it.<br />

V. IloDour thy father and thy mother;<br />

VI. Thou shalt do no murder.<br />

VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery.<br />

law.<br />

VIII. Thou shalt not steal.<br />

Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this<br />

law.<br />

IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.<br />

Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our bearts to keep tbis<br />

law.<br />

X. Thou shalt not covet<br />

rhy neighbour's house, rhou shalr nor covet rhy neighbour's<br />

wi fe, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor<br />

any thing rhar is his.<br />

Lord, bave mercy upon us, and write all tbese tby laws I7l<br />

our bearts, we beseecb thee.<br />

Then shall rhe Minister S.1Y,<br />

GRANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to<br />

think and do always such things as are right; that we,<br />

who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may<br />

by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through<br />

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.<br />

A fter this, rhe People heing seared, rhe Minister, turning ro rhem,<br />

shall ask the which follow, the People reading or repearing<br />

the /\ ns\\'crs.
