Offices of Instruction
That where so instructed, the People may repeat the Commandments,
the Minister saying rhe response. And NOTE furrher, Thor rhe parr of
the Commandment which is inset may be omitted.
I. Thou shalt have none other gods but me.
Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this
law.
II. Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image, nor
the likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the
earth beneath, or in the water under the earth; dlOU shalt
not bow down to them, nor worship them;
for I rhe LoRD thy God am a jealous God, and visir rhe sins
of rhe farhers upon rhe children, unto the rhird and fourrh
generarion of rhem thar hare me; and show mercy unto thou·
S2nds in rhem rhar love me and keep my commandmenrs.
Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep tbis
law.
III: Thou shalt not take the Name of dle LORD thy God
mvam;
for rhe LoRD will not hold him guiltlcss, rhat takerh his Name
in vain.
Lord, have 'mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this
law.
IV. Remember that thou keep holy the Sabbath-day.
Six days shalr rhou labour, and do all rhat thou hasr to do; bur
the seventh day is rhe Sabbarh of rhe LORD thy God. [n ir
thou shalt do no manner of work; rhou, and rhy son, and rhy
daughrer, thy man·servanr, and thy maid·servanr, thy cattle,
and rhe stranger thar is wirhin thy garcs. For in six days the
LoRD made heaven and earrh, the sea, and all rhar in rhem is,
and rested rhe seventh day: wherefore rhe LoRD blessed rhe
seventh day, and hallowed it.

VI. Thou shalt do no murder.

VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

VIII. Thou shalt not steal.
Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our hearts to keep this
law.
IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.
Lord, have mercy upon us, and inc/ine our bearts to keep tbis
law.
X. Thou shalt not covet
rhy neighbour's house, rhou shalr nor covet rhy neighbour's
wi fe, nor his servant, nor his maid, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor
any thing rhar is his.
Lord, bave mercy upon us, and write all tbese tby laws I7l
our bearts, we beseecb thee.
Then shall rhe Minister S.1Y,
GRANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to
think and do always such things as are right; that we,
who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may
by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
A fter this, rhe People heing seared, rhe Minister, turning ro rhem,
shall ask the which follow, the People reading or repearing
the /\ ns\\'crs.
