And ifin a tunnel? Bonus!!Not sure if it wasthe effects of Covid,boredom, curiosity,or a combination ofall three, but seeingthe new Taycan 4Sat the dealershipgot my attention. Having driventhe Taycan Turbo S briefly prior,I had already felt an odd senseof familiarity and wanted more.Negotiations to put this Taycan 4Sin my garage got underway. A fewhours later, we drove off in nearsilence, yet still getting to 60 inwell under four seconds.First ownership impressions,I must say, were not terriblyimpressive. While the dealershipwas helpful in assisting withthe basics, being so reliant ontechnology to do just abouteverything was somewhatchallenging. From charging (aWHOLE other story) to settingup Porsche Connect to simplysetting radio stations, it was . . .interesting. Think giving the latestand greatest Samsung product to along time iPhone user.But now . . .It’s beena month andjust over700 miles.Weighing in atjust under 5000pounds, it’sanything but afeatherweight;however, it handlesas if it were onrails. And thisweight and longwheelbase are verywelcome when it comes to bumpysurfaces. Even though it’s crazyfast, ironically, every trip takeslonger than expected. Young toold and male to female it seemsnearly everyone approaches to askquestions about the car. It looks likenothing else before, and everyonewho looks seems to smile.Coming to terms with the car asa whole is certainly enjoyable. Is ita replacement for piston movingand oil burning? I’m not so sure.This thing is a riot!!! Stupid fast acceleration makinga whirring sound that sounds like something out ofStar Wars! Without gears, the power is linear. And thehandling is pure Porsche.What it seems to be is Porsche’sfuture and we can all agree that thefuture is not the past. Lookingforward, I say Porsche engineersdid a great job and the design teamalso impressed. Now, while theTaycan sits in the garage charging,it seems a great time to take the6-speed Boxster out for dinner . . .9
