SustainabilityCOURSE DELIVERY:07/09/21 - 07/10/21COURSE TITLEStrategic Opportunities and Topics in CorporateSustainable EnterpriseDESCRIPTIONSustainability issues are having increasing effects on corporatestrategy and action. While such issues present substantial risks,they also create substantive opportunities. The course offersinsight into the central issues of sustainability, the increasingbusiness case for sustainability, and an overview of theconcepts, tools, and techniques of sustainable enterprise. Thecourse will begin with an overview of sustainability and moveto addressing the opportunities present in the transition to amore sustainable economy. The course will also address thevarious languages and tools used by sustainability professionals,overviewing various topics such as environmental marketing,carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, certification systems,systems innovation, and greenhouse gas policy approaches.LEARNING OUTCOMES1. Recognize the economic sources of social andenvironmental problems and the transformationnecessary to eliminate those underlyingconditions.2. Develop an understanding of the importanceof sustainability issues to corporations andconsider the various elements of risk andopportunity inherent in the transition to a moresustainable economy.3. Provide an overview of the various concepts,systems, and tools of corporate sustainableenterprise.Dr. Thomas J. Dean is Research Fellow and Professor of Entrepreneurshipand Sustainable Enterprise in the College of Business and School of GlobalEnvironmental Sustainability at Colorado State University. A pioneer in the fieldof sustainable and environmental entrepreneurship, he authored the first knownenvironmental entrepreneurship course in 2001, won accolades for his rigoroustheoretical examination of environmental entrepreneurship in 2007, and publishedthe first textbook on sustainable venturing in 2013.He teaches in CSU’s Impact MBA Program and has consulted with numerouscompanies and start-ups. He has published over 60 manuscripts and bookchapters. He holds a B.S. in Environmental Management from Penn StateUniversity, an MBA from Oklahoma State University, and a Ph.D. in StrategicManagement from the University of Colorado.Instructor: Dr. Tom Dean20 College of Business
How to EnrollCOURSE TAKE YOUR TITLENEXT STEPLEARNING OUTCOMESWherever you want to take your career, executive education at the College of Business can help youtake that next step. All of our courses are offered independently, so you can learn the skills that are mostimportant to you. There are no prerequisites, and professionals at all levels of industry are welcome toenroll.Courses are 16 hours in length and are held on Fridays and Saturdays either on campus in Fort Collins,Colorado, or online via Mosaic. We offer two courses per month. Upon completion of a course, participantswho attend both days of the course will receive a certificate. There are no formal examinations or grades.DESCRIPTIONThe content in some courses is related and may be bundled for a Certificate of Mastery.
