God’s voice now heard Adam <strong>and</strong> Eve<br />

“Obvious duty to meet me, what change absents thee?”<br />

Discountenanced both they came, with<br />

Shame in their looks, perturbation <strong>and</strong> despair.<br />

Judge Gracious without revile further said<br />

“Unless thou hast eaten of the Tree of Dread<br />

Death, thou should’st now be here to see. ”<br />

“Good Lord, my perfect mate hath done this to me”<br />

Ev’n Adam replied abashed where thus he stood:<br />

“Me this woman whom thou gav’st, for my good,<br />

Eve, know that taking from her sweet h<strong>and</strong> I could<br />

Not expect som ill, <strong>and</strong> yet she gave me of<br />

That Dread Tree of Death <strong>and</strong> I did eat, for she I love.”<br />
