Portrait Four<br />
Chhoeung Chean, age 23 in 1977, was born into <strong>the</strong> poor<br />
peasant class in Tbeng village, Tang Krorsaing commune,<br />
District 14, Region 31. His fa<strong>the</strong>r’s name was Chhoueng, and<br />
his mo<strong>the</strong>r’s was Mil Pong. He has seven siblings: three<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>rs and four sisters. Chean joined <strong>the</strong> revolution in District<br />
14, Region 31, after having been a unit chief <strong>for</strong> three months.<br />
He was <strong>the</strong>n sent to study at <strong>the</strong> military training <strong>Center</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Division 703, headed by Tuy. After he completed his training,<br />
he began work in S-21<br />

Portrait Five<br />
Roath Nim, aka Som Nim, was <strong>28</strong> years old in 1977. She<br />
was born in Prek Thmey village, Prek Thmey commune, District<br />
<strong>28</strong>, Region 25, to a poor peasant class family. Her fa<strong>the</strong>r, Som<br />
Rath, worked in a cooperative during <strong>the</strong> Democratic Kampuchea<br />
regime. Her mo<strong>the</strong>r, Him Orn, was dead. Som Nim was a farmer<br />
be<strong>for</strong>e joining <strong>the</strong> revolution. She joined <strong>the</strong> revolution on May<br />
15, 1974. Today she lives in Kandal Province.<br />
Portrait Six<br />
Seng Chak, age 20 in 1977, was born into a lower-middle<br />
class family in Kampong Trea village, Saang Phnom commune,<br />

District 20, Region 25. His fa<strong>the</strong>r’s name was Kar Seng. His<br />
mo<strong>the</strong>r, Por Sem, was dead. Seng Chak has six siblings: four<br />
bro<strong>the</strong>rs and two sisters. He joined <strong>the</strong> revolution in Saang<br />
Phnom commune on March 8, 1974 and worked <strong>the</strong>re as a<br />
combatant <strong>for</strong> eight months. After taking a training course, he<br />
was transferred to work in Unit 296 and <strong>the</strong>n Unit 130. Seng<br />
Chak was sent to work at S-21 on November <strong>28</strong>, 1975. (Present<br />
