A word from the Principal...
Welcome,
It’s been fantastic to have all of our children and staff back at school and I have been amazed by
how quickly your children have settled immediately back into the school routine, it’s like they’ve
never been away.
I extend a special welcome to our new Reception class who, despite having limited transition, have
adapted to starting ‘Big School’ incredibly well. Already, they have made new friendships and they
are clearly loving being part of our school and learning.
Today we held our first virtual assembly of the year,
where each class joined via Zoom and announced
not only the Stars of the Week and Dojo winners,
but our Head Pupils and Deputies and Team
Captains. Congratulations to Anya and Lloyd who
are our Head pupils for this year and Logan and
Charlotte who will ably support them as deputies.
It was a really hard choice, with some incredibly
well written application letters and we are confident
that Anya, Lloyd, Logan and Charlotte will
represent the school fantastically. Our team captains
had to produce video speeches and their teammates
in Y3, Y4, Y5 and Y6 then voted for who they wanted
to lead their team. The winners were:
Red:
Captain - Callum
Vice - Isabel
Green:
Captain - Sophia
Vice - Liam
Blue:
Captain - Alex
Vice - Jamie
Yellow:
Captain - Scarlett
Vice - Laurie

Some of you may have seen a documentary on BBC a couple of years ago, focussed on removing
the gender stereotypes that prevent boys and girls from reaching their potential. It is a fascinating
watch and we have discussed how we can bring in elements of good practice to our school over the
coming weeks, so watch this space. If you would like to watch the documentary, and I thoroughly
recommend you do so, please follow this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wN5R2L-
COVID-19 Protocols
As guidance changes and staff, children and parents become used to the systems in place,
we are able to modify and improve our COVID-19 protocols. The following are our most recent
updates:
• Water bottles can be taken between home and school as often as needed to be washed.
However, please be reminded that if your child does not have their bottle with them each
day, we are unable to provide shared drinking facilities like we would have in the past.
• If you would prefer your child to wear their PE kit to school and for the whole day on days
they have PE to prevent the need to transport PE kit and change, this is now fine.
Breakfast Club
Thank you to those of you who are using breakfast club, it’s great to see that the increased
opening hours are helpful to many of our working parents. However, please ensure you book
in online through the school money portal as due to the popularity of the provision, we need
to use pre-booking to ensure we have adequate staffing. If you are unable to login to your
schoolmoney account, please let me know or contact Mrs Badcock in the office.
Out of hours
We have always been committed to offering a place for children in our community to socialise
and so have always kept our school site open during evenings and weekends. Unfortunately,
we have been coming into school in the mornings to litter strewn across our site. If your
children, of primary school age or older, use our school site outside of school hours, please
remind them to treat it with respect so that we can continue to keep it open.
Entry from the Community Centre
If your Y3, Y4 or Y5 child accesses the school site from the Community Centre in the morning,
they are able to enter their classroom directly through the outside classroom door rather
than having to come around to the main entrance.
Can you help our Early Years Class?
They are looking for some old telephones. If you have any at home that you could donate,
they would be very grateful.
Thank you.
Rock River
You will have seen how fantastic our Rock River is now looking. We would like to extend it
further, so please send in any further painted pebbles and stones. Thank you.
Disable Parking Space?
Unless you are a Blue Badge Holder, please do not park in our disabled parking space under
any circumstances. We appreciate on-site parking is limited, but this space needs to be available
throughout the day. Thank you.

EYFS
Well done Rainbow Class on such a brilliant start to Ludgvan School! We have
been so impressed with how well you have all settled into your new class;
you have all been super stars! You are getting used to your new classroom
and routines. You have loved playing with your friends as well as making new
friends. In class, we have been learning about the story ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver
Jeffers. We have talked about what we like to do on planet Earth; labelled parts
of our body and even made some wild art. We even found time to visit our
class chicken ‘Love’. Keep up your hard work and keep smiling!

Y1
It is lovely to see all the children back at school. I have been so impressed with
how well they have settled into class 1 and the new routines.
As part of the whole school topic we have been reading Here We Are by Oliver
Jeffers. The children have had the opportunity to share their experiences and
reflect on the world they are living in. We have focused on working together
and they have produced some amazing work. They have explored different animals,
looking at where they live on land, sea or sky.
We had fun using Google Earth to look at Earth from space and they enjoyed
locating England, Cornwall and eventually Ludgvan school. They have created
beautiful art work using natural resources found outside. Well done Class 1.

Y2
Year 2 have had a great start to the year with lots of smiling faces and excited
chatter to their friends.
We have been looking at Oliver Jeffers, Here We Are, and after learning the
words to Louis Armstrong ‘s What a wonderful world, we made up our own
class verse. The children told me their ideas of what makes their world wonderful
and we worked them into two verses. I am sure they would be willing to
sing it for you!
We have also been looking at all the creatures on our planet, where they live
and how we can protect them and our planet.

Y3
Year 3 have had a fantastic start to the year and have settled back into school
routines really well.
The children will focus on Africa as their class continent throughout the year
and they will start by looking at the question ‘Why is Africa such a diverse
place to live?’ The children have so far recapped their knowledge and understanding
of a continent and have used their map skills to locate countries within
Africa. They have looked at African patterns and have looked at where the
inspiration for these patterns comes from and how they are used. The children
have been around the school grounds and have been inspired by nature to create
their own African patterns.
Well done Year 3, you’re doing a super job, keep up the good work!

Y4
Class 4 have begun this academic year in amazing fashion. We have explored
anaphora poems, letter writing and the fundamentals of animations using
Scratch.
Some examples of our letter writing display, our learning of paragraphing
content as well as using letter writing features. We chose to write a letter to
someone special in our lives and there were a plethora of beautiful reasons for
choosing their recipient. We discussed virtues and positive relationships, within
PSHE, which gave us a good foundation to show our appreciation to someone
close to us. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to write to all of their chosen
family and friends or we would have been letter writing until Christmas.

Y5
Class 5 has made a great start back to school; they were so happy to be back
with their peers. This week the children have got involved in a number of PSHE
lessons exploring their power to protect the environment, writing letters to
people that are special to them, the importance of mindfulness and many other
areas. They produced brilliant persuasive slideshows, poems, artwork and recordings.
In ICT the children have been learning about the importance of internet
safety and creating their own stop motion clips which they really enjoyed.
This term they are learning drawing skills in art; I was really impressed with all
of their drawings of their eyes.

Year 6
Year 6 have had a fantastic start to the year! They have settled into the new
routines of school extremely well and are acting as very responsible role models
to the other children. The first couple of weeks have been very busy, beginning
learning about World War One. They have all been so enthusiastic to
share information about their relatives who were involved in the war and have
created fantastic timelines and maps to identify the key events during WW1
and the alliances different countries made. As well as this, they had an exciting
time dissecting a real heart in Science and learning about how all of the different
parts work. Some amazing applications and speeches have been made by
those wishing to be Team Captains or Head Pupils, which made the decisions
very difficult. Well done on such a positive start Year 6!
