for A Levels on
page 15, you will
need English at
5 and history (if
taken) at 5.
Success in A Level History involves
extensive reading and the writing of
many essays. Higher grades require
demonstration of analytical and
evaluative qualities combined with
depth and detail of knowledge.
Students find the topics fascinating,
especially as they give them an
understanding of contemporary
Britain and international politics.
ASSESSMENT
This course is assessed through two
exams at the end of the two years of
study.
PROGRESSION
ACADEMIC PROGRESSION
A Level History is considered as
a ‘facilitating subject’ by Russell
Group universities and can lead to
degree level studies in a range of
subjects such as humanity or social
science subjects.
EMPLOYMENT PROGRESSION
History is especially helpful in
preparing students for careers in
law, journalism, the civil service,
teaching, management and
business as it involves skills in
organisation, evaluation, analysis,
problem-solving and research.
