SF 6 Motor Bogie for electrical Locomotives The 6-axled SF 6 locomotive bogie was developed for heavy freight trains with a gross train tonnage of up to 2000 t. Since 2000, Danish railways have been operating 13 high performance locomotives from the EG 3100 series, all of which incorporate the SF 6 bogie. The bogie frame consists of longitudinal girders, two headbeams and two bogie centre beams, which form a closed frame. Pre cut parts are welded together to form a box section. Each bogie wheelset is powered by a three-phase asynchronous motor, which is of axle hung design. The motors hang by means of a rubber - cushioned torque bracket, which oscillates, on each bogie centre beam and are also supported on the wheelset axle. The tractive effort transfer occurs via wear free traction rods and plunger bars which connect the main bogie centre plate (located between the first/second and fifth/sixth wheelset) to the carbody. The low point of impact on the bogie guarantees a fully equal wheelset load for heavy starts and thus also ensures an optimum tractive effort transfer with small wheel and track wear conditions. The bogie frame is supported on the axle bearing by helical springs. Primary springs of the first and last wheelset of every bogie are damped hydraulically. In comparison with both outer wheelsets, the middle wheelset has a greater free lateral clearance in order to reduce the guidance forces in curves, especially those of the respective guiding wheelsets. The wheelset consists of two rolled solid wheels and a forged axle. The horizontally arranged axle guide conducts the tractive efforts from the wheelsets to the bogie frame and takes over the longitudinal guidance of the wheelset on the track. The compressed air brakes work on all wheels via a brake cylinder and brake callipers. The respective brake disks are integrated with the solid wheels. Each bogie has two brake units equipped with spring brakes. The number of revolutions per minute of each wheel is calculated separately by non-contact pulse transmitters. For the Danish rail network, magnets are provided for neutral selection during phase breaks. Wheel flange lubrication and a sanding facility are found on the first and last wheelset of a locomotive. SF 6 bogies for Danish railways are equipped with antenna bundles and speed sensors for Denmark, Sweden and Germany. 7
