Madison-Plains’ Gammell named Player of Year
Aydn Gammell, a senior on the Madison-Plains High
School boys’ golf team, was named Player of the Year
in the Ohio Heritage Conference
(OHC).
Gammell was recognized for
this and other achievements at
the Madison-Plains golf program
awards ceremony on Oct. 19.
In addition to being named the
conference’s top player, Gammell
earned first-team all-conference
status with his score of 81 at the
OHC tournament. He also was
named first-team all-Madison
County and was a district qualifier
in the Ohio High School Athletic
Association post-season
tournament.
Senior Gabe Garrison, a fouryear
varsity letter winner, was
named second-team OHC with a
97 score at the OHC tournament.
Three athletes earn their first
varsity letters in golf—junior
Evan Morehart, sophomore Cole
Music and sophomore Kyler Kimble.
Kimble earned OHC honorable
mention status with a 101

Adoptable Pets
score at the OHC tournament. Two athletes earned
their second-year varsity letters, junior Pegasio Xenikis
and senior Jordan Hildebrand.
Hildebrand earned OHC honorable
mention honors with a 104 score at
the OHC tournament.
The boys’ team ended the season
with 11 wins and finished second
in the South division of the Ohio
Heritage Conference. Joanie Boyle
serves as head coach of the boys’
team.
The girls’ team, coached by Jim
Miller, ended the season with nine
wins and finished seventh out of
eight teams at the OHC tournament.
Senior Bryanna Dodds (August
OHC Player of the Month), a fouryear
letter winner, earned OHC
honorable mention status with her
117 score at the OHC tournament.
She shared the team’s most valuable
player honors with fellow senior
Rachel Weis, a four-year letter
winner who earned first-team OHC
status after her 95 score in the
OHC tournament.
Miller told the team’s underclassmen,
“You have big shoes to fill,” referring to Dodds and Weis.
Sophomores Caralyn Fisher and Becca Plympton earned their
second varsity letters. Plympton walked away with an award for
most improved player.

The following are among the pets up for
adoption at the Humane Society of Madison
County. If you are interested in adopting a

Violet
Violet came to the shelter
on June 14, 2020, along
with her five babies and
went directly into foster
care. Violet was a fantastic
mamma kitty to her babies,
which are now grown
and have been adopted into forever homes.
Now, it is Violet’s turn to find a home.
Shelter staff believe Violet is around 2
years old. She is not a fan of dogs or other
cats and is very shy, so she would do better
in a quiet home by herself. She is a toy
horse, so you may want to stock up on those,
and she loves to hang out on the cat tree by
the window.
The staff hopes that someone with a lot
of patience will adopt Violet and provide her
with her forever home.
Adoption fees for cats are $60 for kittens
and $35 for cats older than 11 months. The
fee includes:a FeLV/FIV test, spay or
neuter, set of shots, de-worming, and a oneyear
rabies shot (if old enough). All fees are
cash only.
Sparky
Sparky was brought to the shelter by a
citizen on Aug. 16, 2020, because he was
running loose in their neighborhood. The
staff believes he is a terrier mix with an estimated
birthdate of Aug. 16, 2018.
This ham is full of personality and loves to
talk to you through barking, but he will stop once
you give him love. He always makes the staff and
volunteers giggle with the crazy things he does
,and that piggy sound he makes is hysterical.
Sparky loves to go on walks and hang out
with people. He is not a fan of high energy dogs
and prefers to mind his own business instead of
socializing with them. As far as cats go, he isn’t
too sure about them, but the staff suspects he would give chase if
they hissed and ran. Sparky is an all-around loving goofball on the
hunt for a loving home.
Adoption fees for dogs are as follows: shelter dogs, $150; prison
dogs, $200; puppies, $250; popular pure-breeds, $400. The price includes:
a Home Again microchip, shots, deworming, heartworm
testing (if old enough), spay or neuter, and a one-year rabies shot
(if old enough). All dogs that are adopted must leave with a county
license at an additional cost of $17. All fees are cash only.
