Neil Simon’s 1991 Tony Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning
play that tells the story of a young father of two whose wife
recently died. When given an opportunity to work as a traveling
salesman to provide for the family, he asks for his mother,
a stern German woman who suffered terribly as a child in
Europe before immigrating to America, to watch the boys for
the summer. So begins an experience the two boys will remember
for the rest of their lives, living over a candy store
with a woman who makes the witch in “Hansel and Gretel”
look like The Good Fairy. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you’ll be
uber happy that you took advantage of it being “about time”
to enjoy a night out. The Delray Beach Playhouse is located
at 950 N.W. Ninth St. and tickets are $35 each. Visit www.delraybeachplayhouse.com
or call (561) 272-1281 to purchase
tickets and learn the detailed play schedule.
I’m a firm believer that you can drink alcohol at any time
of the day as long as there’s fruit in it. Mimosas have it
easy, and Bloody Marys are a daytime favorite, but let’s
not forget about sangria. December 20 is National Sangria
Day and if you don’t have a tried-and-true recipe for this delicious
libation, don’t sweat because there’s a sangria master in
your backyard. The Papa’s Tapas family has passed their sangria
recipe down from generation to generation, all for your
drinking pleasure. No muss, no fuss, just all the sweet, sweet
reward. You can dine in and enjoy their sangria with any number
of their hot or cold tapas and entrees, or you can take
advantage of their take-out menu and get yourself a pitcher
of sangria for $24 and have a couch party. This downright
delightful sangria is a refreshing mix of fruit, wine, bubbles
and probably a secret ingredient or two, and will make you
want to make Sangria Saturday a permanent weekend happening.
The best part is that you don’t even have to lift your
mixing finger because all the hard work is done for you, giving
you the opportunity to relax and enjoy the fruits of the Papa’s
Tapas labor. Papa’s Tapas is located at 259 N.E. Second Ave.
It’s been a tough year; you deserve to treat yourself. Since
traveling is basically shunned upon, live events have gone
digital, and working from home has lost a bit of its appeal,
your option is to love your local space while living like a visitor.
You know, take advantage of those activities you might
only partake in when you have guests visiting because, news
flash, we all deserve to have fun. December is Universal Human
Rights Month and heading out for a cruise with Delray
Yacht Cruises will put all the right in your right-now happiness.
There’s almost nothing better than enjoying a cool cocktail
and a cool breeze on an outside terrace, while someone
else drives a boat that you don’t have to clean or park. Your
trip along the Intracoastal Waterway will provide you with
complete relaxation, front-row views to some of the biggest
houses in the area, and the opportunity to pretend you’re
out of town for a couple of hours. The cruises are held select
days at 1:30 p.m., as well as Friday and Saturday evenings,
for $28 per person, but it’s best to call for the schedule and
pricing. Delray Yacht Cruises is located at 801 E. Atlantic Ave.
