Tasman,and double the
number of visitors from the
North Island.’’
He said running all three
events over one weekend
encouraged people to stay
longer and do more.
‘‘The visitors loved getting a
chance to visitprivate
gardensand talk to the
owners,and learn from them.
The owners loved people
oohing and aahing overtheir
gardens.’’
It was the second year for
the Hanmer SpringsFete.
Organiser Catherine
Batterson said the fetewas a
great boostfor site owners
who, like so many, had
enduredatough year.
One stallholder’s turnover
was up four timesonlast year.
Troubled times
in Ted'sworld
It has been no picnic for Ted, who has been
found lost and alone on the Rakahuri Trail at
the Ashley River.
He is now in the safe hands of the police, who
are anxious to get him home for Christmas.
Ted is no lightweight and stands about a
metre tall.
He will remain hanging out with the local
constabulary while efforts continue to find his
owner.
Officers hope he will soon be reunited with
his rightful owner.
He was found by apasserby on Thursday,
November 12.
Anyone who may be able to help get him
home can call the police on 105 and quote the
file number 201112/7099.
Visitor numbers through
the gates totalled 3100,
compared with 2000 last year.
‘‘We had amazingfeedback
from lastyear, so Ithink it was
acombination of that success,
and the pandemic,which
boosted visitornumbers by
1100 on last year.’’
Ms Batterson said many
visitors attendedthe fete
because they wantedto
support local businesses.
‘‘I’mreally thrilled with the
amount of supportwehave
had, fromvisitors and
sponsors,including the
Hanmer Springs Thermal
Poolsand Spa.’’
Hurunui District Mayor
MarieBlack said the
Amberley A&P Showwas a
success.
