There is alittle bit of magic in
Culverden’s Rutherford
Reserve and Domain.
Afairyland awaits visitors,
with 34 fairy doors now
gracing the area.
The tiny doors, which
proved ahit with many
children on Sunday, are
thanks to an initiative by the
Culverden Playcentre,
supported by playcentre
families, local businesses and
organisations.
The magical world of
fairyland was introduced to
the playcentre during atrip
to Hanmer Springs, where
fairy doors in the forest
captivated their little
charges.
Culverden playcentre mum
Stacey Ginders organised the
doors, using ajigsaw to
produce some interesting
shapes from designs
submitted by families.
Kathryn Langford finished
the doors, using her eye for
detail in painting them.
There are traditional
Filipino homes, gumboots,
and farm animals, and an
important door thanking
sponsors. They include the
Culverden Community
Committee, which funded the
project alongside the
Culverden Lions Club, the
Community Response
Committee, Four Square,
Stockers, The Red Post,
Farmsource and North
Canterbury Tyres.
Last Sunday’s opening day
was described as awesome,
with abig crowd appreciating
the fantastic team effort.
The playcentre, at 43
Montrose Avenue, has 24
little people enrolled. It is
open on Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 9am to 12
noon.
